Chapter 254
As we drifted toward the center of the lake, another boat approached. I recognized the man immediately–Bruce Wayne, CEO of Wayne Industries and one of Drake’s business associates. Beside him sat a young woman with perfectly styled hair and an expensive designer
dress that seemed excessive for a casual lunch.
“Stone!” Bruce called out, maneuvering his boat alongside ours. “Fancy meeting you here.”
Drake nodded stiffly. “Wayne.”
Bruce’s gaze shifted to me, and his smile took on a calculating edge. “And your assistant from the island incident. Elsa, wasn’t it?”
My skin crawled at the reference to our previous encounter. “Mr. Wayne,” I acknowledged with a professional nod, while inwardly thinking,
You smug bastard.
“This is my cousin, Emma Watson,” Bruce introduced the woman beside him, who immediately flashed a dazzling smile at Drake.
“Mr. Stone,” she purred, “I’ve heard so much about you. It’s an honor to finally meet you.”
Drake merely nodded, his expression unchanged. Emma’s eyes lingered on him, her interest unmistakable. I shifted uncomfortably, my jaw clenching and unclenching, though I had no right to feel possessive. Goddammit, why do I even care?
Bruce suggested we join them for dinner, and Drake, surprisingly, agreed. Soon we were seated in a private dining room, with Emma positioned strategically next to Drake.
Throughout the meal, she found reasons to touch his arm and laugh at his minimal comments, each gesture making my stomach tighten despite myself. I stabbed at my food with unnecessary force, almost snapping my fork.
“I’m hosting a gathering at Silver Moon Manor this weekend,” Bruce mentioned casually. “Joseph will be there to discuss the mining project. You should join us.”
Drake considered this while Emma leaned closer to him, her perfume overwhelming my sensitive werewolf nose. I suppressed a sneeze, my
eyes watering slightly.
“Miss Hale,” Bruce said suddenly, sliding his empty teacup toward me. “Would you mind? I’ve been looking forward to enjoying tea served by the famous Hale assistant.”
The request was deliberately humiliating–a power play to remind me of my place. My jaw clenched so hard I thought my teeth might crack. You fucking asshole. But as an assistant, I had little choice. I reached for the teapot with trembling hands, feeling Drake’s eyes grow cold beside me, though he remained silent.
As I poured, trying desperately not to spill from my shaking hands, my phone vibrated. I discreetly checked it under the table–a message. from Allen asking about construction data for the project and my mother’s condition. I quickly typed a response, my thumb hitting the keys with unnecessary force, only to be interrupted by a server entering the room.

“Mr. Wayne?” the server said nervously. “I’m sorry to interrupt, but your vehicle has been reported for illegal parking. The authorities are
preparing to tow it‘
Bruce’s expression darkened immediately. “That’s impossible. I parked in the VIP section.”
He turned his suspicious gaze to me, eyes narrowing. “You wouldn’t happen to know anything about this, would you?*
I maintained an innocent expression, though a small, satisfied smile threatened to break through. ‘I don’t even know which car is yours,
