The suite had two bedroomsthe master where Drake had stored his things, and a smaller guest room. Without hesitation, I grabbed my phone and charger and slipped into the guest room, locking the door behind me with shaking hands.

I leaned against the door, breathing deeply, my forehead pressed against the cool wood. Shit, shit, shit,I whispered to myself. If I slept in the master bedroom with Drake, he might interpret it as an invitation. And right now, I couldn’t handle another round of his possessive games without completely losing my mind.

The guest room was tastefully decorated in neutral tones with a comfortable queensized bed. I changed into a tshirt I found in the suitcaseat least it wasn’t lingerie, thank godand slid under the covers. I doublechecked that the door was locked, my fingers testing the handle repeatedly, desperate for one night of peace.

As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn’t shake the feeling that a locked door wouldn’t keep Drake Stone out if he decided he wanted in. The thought made my stomach twist with a mixture of dread and something else I refused to acknowledge.

I jolted awake the next morning, disoriented by unfamiliar surroundings. Then I felt itstrong arms wrapped around my waist and a warm body pressed against my back. I froze, my body going rigid, suddenly very aware of Drake’s scent

enveloping me like a suffocating cloud.

How did you- I twisted to look at the door, which was still firmly closed, my eyes widening in disbelief. I locked that fucking door!

Drake’s arms tightened around me like steel bands. Did you really think a locked door would keep me out of any room in this manor? His voice was rough with sleep, his breath warm against my neck, sending unwanted shivers down my spine.

Go back to sleep,he commanded, burying his face in my hair and inhaling deeply. It’s early.

I stiffened in his embrace, every muscle in my body tensing as I fought against the treacherous warmth spreading through me. My body betraying me with an involuntary shiver as his lips grazed my neck. I’m hungry,I lied, desperate for an excuse to escape, practically choking on the words. I want to go find

breakfast.

Drake’s eyes opened, and the warmth in them hardened to ice. His jaw tightened as he stared at me, clearly seeing through my pathetic excuse. Get out,” said, his voice suddenly cold and commanding.

I didn’t need to be told twice. I grabbed clean clothes from the end of the bed and practically ran from the room, my heart hammering against my ribs, not even caring that I was only wearing an oversized tshirt. Anything was better than staying in that bed with him and the confusing cocktail of emotions he

stirred in me.

I wandered the halls of Silver Moon Manor, trying to find the dining room, hugging myself against the morning chill. The manor was even more impressive in daylighthigh ceilings, massive windows framing mountain views, and artwork that probably cost more than I’d make in a lifetime. I bit my lip nervousty as I realized how lost I was.

Are you looking for the dining room, Ms. Hale?A young staff member approached me with a polite smile.

Yes, thank god, I said, relief washing over me as I let my shoulders drop: Thank you.

Chapter 259

  1. MM.

He led me through several corridors until we reached an elegant dining room with floortoceiling windows overlooking a mountain lake. Only a few tables were occupied, and I chose one in the corner, sliding into the chair and trying to make myself as inconspicuous as possible.

A server approached immediately. Good morning, Ms. Hale. What can I get for you?

Seafood porridge, please,I said, choosing something nutritious to help my body recover from the stress of the past few days. My hands fidgeted with the napkin, folding and unfolding it repeatedly. And coffee, black. Strong as you can make it.

The server had just left when Drake entered the dining room. Every head turned, conversations hushed, and several pack members lowered their eyes in deference. He wore a casual buttondown shirt and dark jeans that somehow looked as formal as a suit on him. Damn it,I whispered, shrinking in my seat. Without hesitation, he walked directly to my table and sat across from me, the chair scraping loudly in the sudden silence.
