Chapter 96
Elsa
I opened the door to the private dining room, Susan following close
behind like an excited puppy. Drake and Luke were already seated,
engaged in what appeared to be a serious conversation.
“Your jacket,” I said, placing it on an empty chair instead of handing
it directly to him. I’d rather cut off my hand than touch him right
now. “The documents are still in the pocket.”
Drake nodded curtly, then turned his attention to Susan, his
demeanor instantly warming like a switch had been flipped. “Ms.
Moonlight, please join us. I was just telling Luke about your
impressive resume.”
Impressive tits, more like, I thought viciously, then immediately felt
guilty for the thought.
I slipped into a chair in the corner, as far from Drake as possible. A
waiter immediately appeared, but I waved him off. I wasn’t hungry.
My stomach was tied in so many knots it might never untangle. I just
wanted this day to end.

Not Mr. Stone or sir, but his first name, spoken with such familiarity. I
glanced at Drake, expecting him to correct her, but he merely smiled.
The same smile that used to make my heart race. Now it just made me
want to throw up.
“We’re happy to have you,” he said smoothly. “Elsa has been singing
your praises.”
I stiffened at the mention of my name. Liar. You hired her because
she’s young and pretty and worships the ground you walk on. Just like
I used to, you manipulative prick.
“Oh, Elsa has been so helpful!” Susan turned to me with a genuine
smile that made my guilt deepen. “I can’t thank you enough for
recommending me.”
The meal progressed with excruciating slowness. Susan dominated
the conversation, eagerly asking questions about the company and
sharing her ideas. Drake listened attentively, nodding and offering encouragement. He was being charming–the version of himself he
showed to everyone but me.
I picked at my food, saying as little as possible, feeling like I was
watching a car crash in slow motion.
Luke occasionally glanced my way with something like sympathy, but

I avoided his eyes. I didn’t want his fucking pity.
As the meal concluded, Drake stood. “Elsa, would you mind showing
Susan home? I have a meeting across town.”
I froze mid–bite. Was he serious? The audacity of this motherfucker
never ceased to amaze me.
“Drake,” Susan said, her voice taking on a breathy, worshipful quality
that made my skin crawl, “you’re so thoughtful, but I wouldn’t want to
impose on Elsa.”
“It’s no imposition,” Drake replied, not even looking at me. “Elsa is
very accommodating.”
Fuck you, I thought, my teeth clenching so hard my jaw ached. Fuck
you and the overpriced car you rode in on.
Luke cleared his throat. “Actually, Drake, I don’t think that’s
appropriate. Elsa has her own duties, and she’s had a… difficult day.”
Drake’s eyes narrowed slightly at the challenge, but after a moment,
he nodded. “You’re right. I’ll have my driver take Susan home.” He
pulled out his phone and stepped away to make the call.
Susan leaned toward me while Drake was distracted. “He’s so

amazing,” she whispered, eyes following him like he was some kind of
god. “I can’t believe I’ll be working for him.”
Run while you still can, I wanted to tell her. Run far and fast before
he consumes you. Instead, I smiled tightly and nodded, my face
muscles straining with the effort.
Drake returned. “The car will be here in ten minutes. Luke, we should
