By the time Daisy caught wind of the whispers spreading through the pack, her curiosity and irritation had already taken hold, pushing her to head in the same direction Seraphine had gone, her steps quick and purposeful as she followed the faint trail into the woods.
It didn’t take long for her to realize Seraphine wasn’t anywhere in sight, and the stillness around her told her everything she needed to know. She had come out here for a run.
Daisy paused, her eyes sweeping left and right, her senses stretching outward cautiously, making sure no one was close enough to witness what she was about to do, because unlike the others, she had far more to hide.
Once she was certain she was alone, she shifted into her wolf form.
During training sessions, she had always found excuses, feigning illness or weakness just to avoid revealing it, because Fenrir wolves were not something the pack welcomed with open arms.
They were the result of curses, and Daisy got hers from a sin she kept running away from. However, her wolf was proof of it.
She had only just begun to move when everything went wrong.
Out of nowhere, a white gifted wolf appeared, its presence overwhelming, its movements swift and relentless as it chased her down with a force that left no room for escape.
Panic surged through Daisy as she tried to break away, her instincts screaming at her to flee, but the gap between them closed too quickly, and before she could even shift to her human form, she was caught.
Helplessness gripped her, sharp and suffocating, until the white wolf suddenly withdrew, the attack halting as it shifted back into human form.
Relief came first, then shock. Because standing before her was the last person she had expected.
Seraphine.
Daisy stared, her mind struggling to catch up with what she had just witnessed, because the truth settled in fast and heavy.
Seraphine carried a white gifted wolf, something rare, powerful, and one, Ravyn clearly had no idea about, just as he had no idea about her own secret. He had never cared enough to notice, never insisted on running together, and that lack of attention had worked in Daisy’s favor for far too long.
Now, though, things were different.
"What?" Daisy scoffed, masking the unease creeping into her chest as she forced a smirk onto her lips. "Are you scared?"
Seraphine didn’t answer. Instead, she turned and began walking toward where she had left her clothes, her pace steady, her silence far more unsettling than any response Daisy had expected.
Daisy followed closely behind, her irritation growing with every step that went unanswered. "You’re scared, aren’t you?" she pressed, her voice sharper now, edged with a taunt she hoped would provoke something. "Now that you’ve seen my wolf."
Still, Seraphine said nothing.
She reached the branch where her clothes hung and began dressing calmly, as though Daisy’s presence meant nothing, as though her words carried no weight at all, and that quiet dismissal only made the tension tighten further.
Then, finally, Seraphine spoke.
"Daisy," she said, her tone even, almost too calm, "you might want to die today, and trust me, my wolf would be more than happy to grant that wish."
She slipped on her shoes, her movements unhurried, precise.
"But I stopped her," she continued, lifting her gaze to meet Daisy’s, her eyes sharp now, cutting straight through her, "because your sins haven’t been exposed yet, and until they are, I’ll make sure you stay alive long enough to face them."
Quickly, she reached out through the mindlink, her voice laced with urgency. Rav, Sera wants to kill me.
