Earlier that day, long before the storm had forced everyone to take shelter inside the gym, Corvine and Kael quietly watched as Seraphine and Athaliah talked together.

Neither one of them had expected the Silver Moon princess to come across as so genuinely friendly and approachable with Seraphine right from the start.

Athaliah had closed the distance between them with this bright, open smile lighting up her face, chatting away so naturally and comfortably that anyone watching from a distance would have easily assumed the two women had known each other for years and were catching up like old friends.

"I’ve been trying to reach you for a while now," Athaliah said, and a quick hint of real disappointment flickered across her expression. "I just couldn’t get through no matter what I tried."

"That robotic response kept tell me your phone was switched off or out of coverage area but I ended up hearing quite a lot about everything that happened with you."

Seraphine offered her a warm, apologetic smile in return. "Yeah, I changed my number after all that mess."

Athaliah nodded right away as if the explanation made total and perfect sense to her. "I pretty much figured that was the case."

She folded her arms in a loose, casual way and continued, her voice full of feeling. "You wanted to get away from that lousy ex-husband of yours, and honestly? You made the absolute right choice by walking away."

"A whole lot of these Lunas out there are way too scared and stuck to ever leave bad marriages behind. They’d rather just keep suffering through everything in total silence instead of finding the courage to start their lives over fresh and better. But you weren’t like that at all, you actually did something about it."

A big, proud smile spread across her face, making her look even more radiant and confident.

Corvine nearly choked on his own breath when he heard her speak so openly, his eyes widening in complete surprise as he stared straight at Athaliah.

She really did not care one bit about who might overhear her strong opinions on the matter.

Seraphine noticed the shocked look on his face and almost laughed, but then the memory of the whole arranged marriage situation had come back to her. She gently changed the subject to something lighter and more personal.

"So, tell me," Seraphine said with a genuinely warm smile, "how have you been doing these days? It’s honestly been so many years since we last saw each other back at the academy."

Athaliah relaxed almost instantly, her eyes filling up with a spark of real excitement that was impossible to miss. "I’ve been living in France for a while now, and I actually started my own fashion brand from the ground up. I’ve been really hoping that someday soon we could find a way to work together on something special."

She leaned forward a little, clearly thrilled at the idea. "I want to take my clothing line to a whole new level that nobody else has reached yet. I need designs that feel completely unique and different from everything out there."
