Athaliah’s smug smile vanished the second she heard Alpha Killian’s deep voice behind her. She could not understand why it annoyed her so much even when she had never had a proper conversation with him before.
It was as if he was sent from hell to torment her.
Before she could even turn around, Daisy jumped right back in, determined not to let the game die. Her eyes locked onto Seraphine with fierce intensity.
"It’s not over yet. You still have to climb that hill and yell at the top of your lungs that you love Alpha Voren."
Pure confidence flashed across Daisy’s face. She was absolutely sure Voren would reject Seraphine after getting publicly humiliated like that.
After all, Seraphine had kissed him, called him a terrible kisser in front of everyone, and then refused to pay him a single cent. There was no way a proud man like Voren would let that kind of disrespect slide without pushing her away.
Again, Voren had not even given Seraphine permission when she stole that kiss. After putting two and two together, Daisy concluded that Seraphine had just stolen the kiss whereas Voren did nothing because of their business relationship.
Ravyn had seen more than enough. That heated kiss kept replaying in his head over and over, and every single time it did, it felt like an invisible hand was squeezing his heart until he could barely breathe.
"This stupid game ends right now," he growled, his voice booming across the gathering. "We’re not kids anymore."
What he feared was Daisy facing more embarrassments from Seraphine, especially when the lapses around the pack had completely raided her of the respect of the pack members.
"Too late, Alpha Ravyn," Corvine cut in smoothly, his calm tone slicing right through the thick tension before anyone else could speak. A faint smile played on his lips, but his eyes were sharp and far from friendly.
"You only want to stop the game because your mistress is losing badly."
He folded his arms across his chest, standing his ground. "You stood there and watched my sister swallow her pride just to kiss your best friend. Your mistress started this game, and she’s going to finish it."
Ravyn opened his mouth to argue, but Corvine didn’t give him the chance.
Instead, he stood up, turned toward Seraphine with an easy, warm smile and held out his arms. "Come on, Sera. I’ll carry you up the hill. It’s not like this is the first time."
Without any hesitation, Seraphine stepped closer. Corvine scooped her up into his arms like she weighed absolutely nothing, holding her securely against his chest.
A quiet murmur rippled through the crowd as they watched. Athaliah found herself staring longer than she intended, completely caught off guard.
There was just something about Corvine, the quiet confidence, the steady strength, and the way he carried Seraphine so effortlessly. It all pulled her attention in a way she couldn’t quite explain.
Corvine started up the steep hill without slowing down even once. Even with Seraphine in his arms, his breathing stayed calm and even, like the climb was no big deal at all.
