Voren did not immediately think of Ravyn’s question, knowing the next would be about the slap. Among the gathered Alphas, striking another Alpha was a serious offense, one that could easily turn the entire room against Corvine and lead to demands for punishment.

His mind raced, already searching for a way to protect his Beta from the consequences.

Before anyone could react, Damon suddenly wore a remorseful expression and hurried toward Ravyn.

"Ravyn, I’m really sorry." He bent down and offered him a hand. "That bottle rolled off my table, and I didn’t even notice until it was too late." His face was full of fake concern. "Are you okay?"

Ravyn accepted the help and climbed back to his feet. His jaw was clenched so tightly the muscles twitched along the side of his face.

For a moment he had been convinced Kael was the one responsible for making him fall. After all, Kael was no longer a member of the Grimroot Pack, so there was nothing stopping him from interfering. "It’s fine."

Ravyn brushed the matter aside, even though the embarrassment still burned hot under his skin. "Just be more careful next time."

As soon as the words left his mouth, another thought crossed his mind. His brows furrowed. "Someone grabbed my arm from behind." His sharp eyes swept across the room. "Who was it?"

"It was me." Kael stepped forward without the slightest hesitation. There wasn’t a trace of fear on his face.

Ravyn narrowed his eyes. "You?"

Kael folded his arms across his chest. "Did you really think I’d stand there and watch you attack my chairwoman?"

Ravyn frowned. "Chairwoman?" His confusion was obvious as Kael nodded toward Seraphine. "Sera is the chairwoman of MindNest." He motioned toward Corvine. "She’s Corvine’s boss."

Then he pointed at himself. "And now Corvine is my boss." A faint smile crossed his lips. "So if you lay a hand on her..." His expression hardened. "You’re picking a fight with me too."

The realization finally hit Ravyn. His lips slowly curved into an amused smile. "So..." He chuckled mockingly. "The two of you actually think you can bring me down?"

"If that’s what it takes." Corvine answered without missing a beat. His calm expression never changed. "You almost hit Sera." He took one step closer. "If protecting her means standing in your way..." His voice turned firm. "Then you’ll have to kill me first."

"And me." Kael stood shoulder to shoulder with Corvine. Neither man showed the slightest intention of backing down. The atmosphere grew even heavier.

Then another voice joined them. "And me." Everyone turned toward Prince Jasper. His handsome face still carried the weight of disappointment, but his eyes remained determined. "I know she’s married now."
