Chapter 519 – Nobody saw it coming
The instant Daisy confessed to enjoying draining Seraphine’s blood long after she no longer needed it, Voren stopped hearing everything else in the room. Nothing around him mattered anymore, not the crowd, not the accusations flying back and forth, not even Ravyn, who looked more than capable of dealing with Daisy himself. His entire focus narrowed to one person and one person only.
Seraphine.
With Ravyn standing between Daisy and everyone else, those surrounding Seraphine had unknowingly relaxed.
They loosened their stances, and cautiously returned to their seats, believing the worst was finally over and they could breathe again.
But they were wrong.
Inside Voren’s mind, Bloodfang released a low, furious growl that shook through every corner of their shared consciousness. ’I want her blood.’
Voren’s own eyes darkened until they looked almost black. ’That makes two of us.’
He had barely taken a single step toward Daisy when Bloodfang seized control without asking permission. There was no transformation, no fur, no monstrous form, only raw, blistering speed. Before Daisy could fully complete her shift, Voren’s body shot across the hall like a bolt of lightning. The guests barely caught a blur of movement.
He slammed into Daisy before she could reach Seraphine. The impact echoed throughout the banquet hall like a thunderclap.
Bloodfang’s claws burst from Voren’s fingertips, stretching into a deadly weapon as they drove straight between Daisy’s ribs with brutal precision. Her eyes flew open wide, a choked scream tore from her lips, wet and broken. Without giving her even a second to recover, Bloodfang shoved her away with terrifying force.
Daisy’s body hurtled through the air before smashing violently into the stone wall, at the same time Voren’s phone dropped from his breast pocket. The entire room trembled under the impact.
Chunks of plaster rained down onto the floor as she collapsed in a crumpled heap, coughing violently while blood poured from the deep wound in her chest.
Her incomplete transformation vanished almost immediately. Within seconds she was back in her human form, trembling hard as a growing pool of crimson spread beneath her.
Several guests instinctively stumbled backward. No one wanted to be anywhere near Voren, or the beast currently wearing his skin.
Ravyn picked up Voren’s phone to give him but his eyes darkened when he saw the image on the screen. "Sera?"
Then he remembered something and relaxed. "No, it must be Coco," he murmured under his breath.
"She needs a doctor." Damon’s eyes stayed fixed on Daisy even as the rest of the room recoiled. Regardless of everything she had done, the pup she carried remained important. That pregnancy was the only thing still keeping Ravyn emotionally tied to her.
If the baby survived while Daisy faced justice, Ravyn would carry the weight of having a pup from Fenrir wolf for the rest of his life, which means the past would always haunt him.
Before anyone else could react, Bloodfang answered through Voren in a deep, inhuman voice that sent chills racing through the hall. "Her Fenrir wolf will heal her."
Silence swallowed the room whole. Every face reflected the same stunned disbelief. Two impossible things had happened within moments of each other. The first was that Voren had surrendered control to his wolf without shifting.
The second was that Daisy possessed a Fenrir wolf. Nobody knew which revelation was more terrifying.
Whispers immediately spread through the crowd like wildfire. "A Fenrir wolf?"
