Ever since Daisy’s exposure, Ravyn had always felt different. Something had changed inside him, a restlessness that refused to be quelled.
That was why he trained harder. It was as if pushing his body above would give him the answers he craved but it didn’t.
But no matter how he tried, he couldn’t reach his fullest potential. The power was there, lurking beneath the surface, but always just out of reach.
’Do you see it now?’ His wolf, Axel’s voice echoed in his mind, sharp and knowing. Ravyn hated it whenever he chastised him like this before but not anymore.
Now, he craved his wolf’s words and direction like his life depended on it. ’The woman you despised is the key to our full potential. Her wolf is tapping into my energy, but only for protection against the wizard.’
He paused, his voice heavy with regret. ’She hates us and would not let us pass that.’
Ravyn’s expression dulled, the weight of realization crushing him. He had no idea that the woman he’d been searching for, the solution to his fragmented power, had been under his roof for seven good years.
And he had let her go without a fight. The irony was bitter, a poison that spread through his veins.
Now, it was too late. ’Allow her to use as much as she wants.’ Ravyn’s resolve hardened as Axel asked him. ’You have to be aware that it changes nothing. She’ll never give us a chance to make it up to her.’
Ravyn already knew that bit and yet, he wanted to do it for someone special. ’We are doing this for our pup.’
Thus, he didn’t mind if Seraphine’s wolf sucked their energy dry. His conversation with his wolf was interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Mr. Walker, we meet again." Battal’s voice was flat, indifferent, as if they were discussing the weather rather than life and death.
Ravyn forced a small smile, his eyes never leaving the Lycan King. "You left in a hurry. I had no idea our destination was the same." He tilted his head, feigning ignorance. "So what’s the problem?"
He already knew. But he needed to hear it, needed to buy time. He still knew little to nothing about these creatures because his first meeting with Battal was purely business.
He was yet to know if these Lycans had a pack as the werewolves or if they lived their lives permanently among humans.
Sometimes, they mingled with outlanders but packs were forbidden. However, the Alpha king had dined with the devil, giving them the chance to invade his pack like this.
He had even sent some of them to Ravyn’s pack before, making Ravyn more and more interested in knowing about his opponents.
They knew too much about werewolves and yet, werewolves were now learning about them. The irony of the matter was seething.
"One of your kind killed ours." Battal’s gaze swept across the corridor, cold and assessing. "We demand his life, and that of this woman." He glanced at Seraphine, his eyes lingering on her with predatory interest. "But it has nothing to do with our business collaboration."
