After Corvine carried Seraphine off to her suite last night, Liah figured she’d just wait for him in theirs. She was still thinking about how quiet the halls felt when she got to the door and stopped cold. Jasmine was coming out.

If the other girl hadn’t looked so red in the face the second she saw Liah, maybe it wouldn’t have set off any alarms. But that flushed look was hard to miss.

"Jasmine, what are you doing here?" Liah’s voice came out sharper than she meant, confusion sitting plain on her face.

Jasmine pressed her lips together, then let out a soft breath. "It’s my fault. I’m too slow. I was putting together a little surprise for you both."

Liah stood there weighing whether to let it go or haul her right back inside to check. Her eyes narrowed just a bit. "How’d you even get our key code?"

A small smile tugged at Jasmine’s mouth. "Kael’s got the codes to every room for emergencies. I begged him for it. Honest, Luna, I don’t mean any trouble. It’s just my wedding gift to the two of you."

Liah opened her mouth to say something else, but Jasmine already hit the elevator button. The doors slid open, and she slipped inside before another word could land.

Liah stayed put a second, torn between waiting for Corvine and trusting the story. In the end she decided to give Jasmine the benefit of the doubt. She didn’t regret it.

On the bed a big white swan made of towels rested in the middle of scattered rose petals. Heat crawled straight up Liah’s chest and into her cheeks. She stood there staring, heart beating a little faster.

She headed for the bathroom and found a tiny scrap of black lingerie laid out neat on the counter. Jasmine had thought of that too.

If Liah hadn’t run into her in the hallway she probably would’ve thought the whole pack had set this up as some kind of welcome for the newly mated.

Nothing in the room pointed to Jasmine specifically. That made Liah’s chest feel warmer than before. The suspicion she’d been carrying around started to fade.

She stepped under the hot water and let it run over her shoulders. Steam filled the small space. She was still rinsing soap from her skin when she heard footsteps outside the glass door.

Her stomach flipped hard. Anxiety mixed with something hotter flooded her chest. This was it. No more waiting. No more careful distance.

Corvine pulled the door open and stepped in. He froze the second his eyes landed on her bare back. Water streamed down the curve of her spine. His voice came out low and rough.
