Seraphine woke up in annoyance from the alarm. The shrill sound cut through her sleep like a blade, dragging her from the warm cocoon of dreams and back into the cold reality of duty.

She knew exactly why it was ringing, knew exactly what awaited them beyond the sanctuary of their suite, but she only wished she had the chance to sleep longer. Just a few more minutes. Just a little more time wrapped in the warmth of her husband’s arms.
