Chapter 116

Pain overwhelmed everything as my strength drained away. I shifted back to human form involuntarily, my body too damaged to maintain wolf shape. The wound in my chest was catastrophic-I could see straight through to the cave floor beneath me.
I’d never heard of white wolves losing control like this, going completely feral. But none of that mattered now.
What mattered was the look in Elowen’s eyes-still in her white wolf form, but the madness was clearing. Recognition and horror were
flooding back.
Fuck. So my blood can bring her back to sanity. The price was just… a bit steep.
The white wolf began frantically licking my wounds, desperate whimpers escaping her throat. I managed a weak smile. She was genuinely worried about me-caring from her heart, not just the bond.
But my injuries weren’t healing. Her tongue couldn’t repair what her own power had destroyed. The white wolf’s distress intensified, her movements becoming more frantic.
That’s when I knew. I was really dying this time.
I could feel the burning sensation in the wound-her fire still eating away at my flesh, preventing any regeneration. Even an Alpha King couldn’t survive having his heart pierced by a white wolf’s claws. Her unique abilities were designed to prevent healing, to make kills
permanent.
I reached up with trembling fingers to stroke her soft fur. “Don’t worry anymore,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “Dying by your hand… it’s better than dying by anyone else’s. Kind of poetic, really.”
Tears began forming in the white wolf’s eyes, making them gleam in the dim light.
I didn’t want to leave with regrets. Not this time. I kept stroking her fur as I spoke, needing her to finally understand.
“I’ve regretted rejecting you four years ago every single day since,” I said, each word taking effort. “You need to know-my feelings for you were always deeper than you realized. You were raised by a warrior father who trained you to be fearless. You had those beautiful amber eyes that could see right through people’s bullshit.”
I smiled at the memories flooding back. “And that high ponytail you always wore during training-the way it swung when you moved. You’d wear those soft blue sundresses on rest days, the ones with the little white flowers embroidered on the hem. You looked like sunshine and steel all at once. God, you were perfect.”
The white wolf’s ears flattened against her head, listening intently despite her distress.
“But I was the Alpha King in waiting,” I continued, my breathing getting harder. “So many enemies circling, my own father’s position

constantly under threat. I couldn’t… I couldn’t choose you and risk everything my pack needed. I was the king. I didn’t have the luxury of
choosing what I wanted most.”
My vision was starting to blur. “Forgive me. That’s been my greatest regret, the thing that’s haunted me every night for four years. I could
never find the words to apologize properly. But now… now I can finally say it.” I met her wolf eyes directly. “I’m sorry, Elowen. I failed
you. You would have been the best queen this kingdom ever saw.”
Tears began streaming down the white wolf’s face, dropping onto my chest like rain.
I closed my eyes, ready to accept the end. At least I’d finally told her the truth.
But then something extraordinary happened.
The white wolf leaped into the air, and her tears transformed. They became luminescent droplets that hung suspended in the air, circling above us. A holy light began emanating from her body-pure, radiant, unlike anything I’d ever witnessed. The light touched her tears,
making them glow with divine energy.
The blessed tears fell onto my chest wound.
The burning sensation from her fire immediately vanished. I felt my suppressed healing abilities surge back to life, no longer blocked by her power. My flesh began knitting together-I could actually see it happening, muscle and bone regenerating at visible speed.
The white wolf landed gracefully beside me, her eyes filled with a tenderness I’d never seen before. Not just concern-something deeper.
Softer.
Movement from the side caught my attention. The gray wolf-Frost-was stirring, apparently recovered from being knocked unconscious. He seemed affected by the holy light as well, his injuries healing rapidly.
Frost bounded over to us, dancing around excitedly in his wolf form, clearly amazed and delighted by what he was witnessing.
I managed a laugh. “Frost! Your timing was impeccable, as always.”
The gray wolf shifted back to human form, looking sheepish. “I was patrolling near the pack when I saw this insane display of fire and lightning in the distance-like the sky was tearing itself apart. I rushed to investigate.” He rubbed his head. “Didn’t expect to nearly die because our queen’s power has gotten so terrifyingly strong!”
The white wolf bared her teeth at him, clearly embarrassed and guilty about the whole incident.
I stroked her fur again, unable to stop touching her now that I was alive. “You hurt me, so you’re responsible for me now. I can’t walk. Will you carry me home, mate?”
The white wolf jumped away with obvious indignation, her tail swishing.
But then she jumped back, seeming to make a decision. Lightning began crackling around her body, purple electricity arcing between the

cave walls with terrifying intensity. The sound was deafening, like a thunderstorm trapped in stone.
Frost immediately moved to shield me, looking alarmed. “What is she-”
“Relax,” I said with a grin. “She’s opening a portal for us.”
Sure enough, the lightning tore open a spatial rift, revealing the familiar halls of my castle on the other side.
The white wolf looked at us expectantly, waiting for us to follow.
All three of us stepped through the crackling portal. In an instant, we were home-standing in my own territory, safe and whole.
