Chapter 133
Elowen
(70)
That night, back in my pack, I couldn’t find peace. My mind kept replaying the scene in Kalus’s throne room-his cold dismissal, Rowan’s triumphant smile, the way he wouldn’t even look at me.
How could everything change so fast?
One moment he was my ally. My mate. Maybe even… my love. The next, he treated me like an inconvenient subordinate he couldn’t wait
to dismiss.
Fuck! That heartless, ungrateful Alpha King! I should have killed him in that cave when I had the chance!
Rage consumed me. I grabbed a decorative vase from the shelf and hurled it at the wall. The satisfying crash did nothing to ease the fury burning in my chest. A painting followed. Then a chair. I was reaching for the mirror when the door burst open.
“Well,” Evelyn said, surveying the destruction with a philosophical sigh. “Turns out even the Sacred White Wolf can’t escape the pain of
heartbreak.”
I glared at her.
Scarlett pushed past Evelyn and wrapped her arms around me, pulling me into a tight embrace. Her voice was soft against my ear. “We both guessed it would end this way. But you had to see it for yourself. Otherwise, you’d never have closure.”
I let out a bitter laugh, my body going slack in her arms. “Well! At least the trip was worth it. My feelings for him are completely… dead! No more ridiculous fantasies about him changing or caring about me.”
Evelyn sighed dramatically. “I knew it. The three of us are destined to die alone.”
“God, Evelyn!” Scarlett snapped, pulling away from me to glare at the witch. “Can you stop saying things that make people want to punch
you?”
I found myself smiling despite everything. “Actually, she’s right. Dying alone is better than being with a heartless wolf who’ll throw you away the moment someone more useful comes along.”
I looked at Evelyn directly. “Didn’t you say something earlier about throwing a bonfire party tonight to celebrate?”
Scarlett clearly hadn’t expected me to take that seriously, but Evelyn’s face lit up. “Follow me!”
She led us out to the training grounds, where-impossibly-a massive bonfire was already roaring. The scent of roasting meat filled the air, and beside the fire stood an elaborate wooden rack displaying five tiers of bottles. Wine, mead, spirits-every kind of alcohol
imaginable.

😀
Scarlett literally jumped with excitement. “God, Evelyn! I thought you were joking this morning! I can’t believe you actually did this!”

Evelyn shrugged with false modesty. “Well! I predicted today would be Elowen’s angriest day yet. And to ensure our pack doesn’t get
smashed to pieces by her bad mood, I had to drag my lazy bones into action!”
A laugh bubbled up despite everything-only Evelyn would frame her kindness as self-preservation. Something warm bloomed in my chest. I sat down between my two best friends, grabbed a bottle of wine, and took a long drink directly from it.
“To terrible mates and even worse Alpha Kings,” I toasted.
The alcohol burned going down, but it also dulled the sharp edges of my heartbreak. We ate meat and drank under the stars, and for a few blessed hours, I managed to forget everything except this moment-my peaceful pack, my loyal friends, our three shadows dancing in the
firelight.
At least I still have a home. At least I have them.
The next morning arrived far too quickly. Despite the pounding headache from last night’s drinking, I forced myself out of bed and made
the journey back to the Forbidden Sanctum.
Time to retrieve Frost.
Inside the herb-filled chamber, I found him diligently working alongside Lysandra, using a small gardening tool to carefully tend her exotic plants. He looked oddly domestic-so different from the fierce beta warrior I usually saw.
Lysandra noticed me first, her white hair catching the mystical light as she turned. “Elowen! How delightful to see you again!* Her expression shifted to concern as she studied my face. “Though you look… unwell. Rough night?”
You have no idea.
Before I could respond, Frost turned around. The moment he saw me, his face broke into a relieved smile. He quickly rinsed his hands and
crossed to me.
“You’re safe!” His voice carried genuine joy. “That means you successfully rescued Kaius! I knew you could do it.”
I couldn’t help my bitter tone. “Oh, he’s better than ever. Never been better, actually. You don’t need to worry about him at all. He’s sitting very comfortably on his throne.”
Frost’s smile faded instantly. His pale blue eyes narrowed with concern. “What happened? Did Kaius do something to upset you?” His voice dropped. “No one else has ever made you look like this.”
I turned away, not wanting him to see how much the question hurt. “Frost… I probably won’t be visiting your pack anymore. We likely won’t see each other much after today.” I forced the words out. “I’m not just here to pick you up. This is… goodbye.”

Panic flashed across Frost’s face. “What?! No! Elowen, fuck-you can’t just-you’re my Queen! What the hell happened?!” His voice rose
with barely contained fury. “If that bastard Kaius did something to you, I swear I’ll make him regret it!”
I remained silent, unable to put the betrayal into words.
Lysandra had been watching our exchange with obvious fascination. Now she glided over to stand directly in front of Frost, her expression
uncharacteristically serious.
“Before you leave, Frost, I have one small piece of advice.” Her voice took on a strange, layered quality-like multiple voices speaking in harmony. “You have your own life to live. Your own path to walk. I hope you won’t spend it existing solely for someone else’s sake.”
The words hung in the air, cryptic and profound. I frowned, trying to parse their meaning.
What does she mean? Is she talking about Kaius? Or… something else?
But before I could ask, Frost had already turned and was striding toward the exit, his entire body radiating barely controlled rage.
I rushed after him. “Wait! Where are you going?!”
He stopped just outside the cave entrance, turning to face me. His eyes-normally so calm and calculating-blazed with an intensity I’d never seen before. It wasn’t just anger. It was something deeper, more primal.
Pure, protective fury.
“I won’t allow anyone to hurt you,” he said, his voice low and dangerous. “No one. Not even Kaius.”
My breath caught. “Frost, you don’t understand-”
“I’m going to teach that bastard a lesson he’ll never forget.”
