Alpha's STOLEN Mate (by Abigail Hayes) novel Chapter 199

Chapter 199

Elowen

Darkness. Total, absolute darkness.

In my dreams-or were they nightmares?-I watched my pack burn. Again. The flames consumed everything I’d built, everyone I loved.

And through the smoke and fire, a massive shadow moved.

The Lycan. Kaius’s twisted form, hunting through the ruins of my territory.

He was slaughtering them. My pack members. My friends. Even Scarlett-her body broken and bleeding at his feet while he stood over her

with bloodstained claws.

And Morgath… she wasn’t standing behind him this time, pulling his strings like a puppet master. She stood beside him. Equal. Partner.

Ally.

She laughed and praised him, running her hands over his bloodied fur like he was a good hunting dog. And he-God, he smiled. A terrible,

inhuman smile that showed too many teeth.

“NO!” I screamed. “FUCK! NO NO NO-”

My arms flailed wildly, and my hand connected with something cold and solid. Metal.

I jolted awake.

A cage. I was in a fucking cage again.

But this one was different-larger than before, with thick iron bars that gleamed in the strange light. And the view beyond… crystal walls. White, translucent crystal stretched in every direction, making the space feel sterile and alien.

I’m still in her realm. Still trapped in this nightmare.

My injuries had lessened somewhat-I could move without screaming-but rage overrode any relief. I grabbed the bars and shook them with all my strength, howling my fury at the walls.

The door opened.

A man entered-clinical, detached, wearing wire-rimmed glasses and a pristine white coat. He carried a medical case and moved with the careful precision of someone who’d done this a thousand times. My violent thrashing didn’t even make him blink.

“Save your energy,” he said coldly, setting the case down near my cage. “Your abilities have been suppressed. You’re not getting out.”

He opened the case and withdrew a syringe, filling it carefully with some iridescent liquid that swirled unnaturally in the Den tube,

“What the fuck are you doing?! I pressed myself against the back of the cage. ‘Stay away from me!”

A thin smile crossed his face. “Can’t you tell? I’m giving you an injection.”

“Don’t you fucking-”

He moved faster than I expected, his hand shooting through the bars and grabbing my arm with iron strength. Before I could pull away,

the needle pierced my skin.

Fire spread through my veins. I collapsed, retching, cursing him with every word I knew as my body convulsed.

Then… the pain started fading.

What?

I pushed myself up slowly, examining my wounds. They were closing. The deep gashes from Kaius’s claws were knitting themselves together, skin regenerating at visible speed. The crushing fatigue was lifting, strength returning to my limbs.

The doctor watched with clinical detachment. “Well! The witch’s orders weren’t to kill you. No point in injecting death serum.” His smile

turned cruel. “After all, you’re her favorite pet. She wants you healthy.”

The words made my skin crawl.

I immediately tried reaching out-attempted to mindlink Scarlett, Evelyn, anyone. Searched for my wolf, that familiar presence that had

been with me since birth.

Nothing. Just empty silence where my abilities should be.

“Waste of effort,” the doctor said, repacking his case. “That injection only heals your body. It doesn’t restore your powers. He stood. “We

need you physically healthy for the next phase.”

“Next phase?” The words came out flat, emotionless.

“Extracting your mate bond, obviously. You nearly experienced it once before. He looked at me like I was particularly stupid. “You can’t be a proper pet with remnants of attachment to another. Just like humans neuter their animals, we need to ensure your complete… loyalty to

your new master.”

He left without another word, the door sealing behind him with a heavy click.

I stared at the crystal walls, feeling something break inside me.

This is it. This is how it ends.

Fear crept in-real, paralyzing fear. Not the adrenaline-fueled fear of battle, but the quiet, suffocating fear of inevitability. I couldn’t fight it. Couldn’t control it. The hopelessness wrapped around me like chains.

I’m going to lose everything. My bond with Kaius. My memories. My self.

Without thinking, I started slamming my head against the bars. Maybe pain would help. Maybe physical hurt could drive out the

existential horror-

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

My forehead split. Blood ran into my eyes. But I kept going, because at least this pain was mine, was something I could control-

A massive shadow fell across the cage.

I didn’t look up. Didn’t care anymore who was coming. What was the point?

Then a hand-no, a claw-caught my head mid-strike, stopping the motion with gentle but undeniable force.

Kaius?

I looked up slowly, and my breath caught.

The Lycan stood there. Eight feet of twisted muscle and fur, hunched but radiating lethal power. Kaius’s face, but wrong-elongated,

bestial, those terrible red eyes staring down at me.

He was upright now. Walking like a man. Looking almost… human. If you could ignore everything else.

“KAIUS!” The rage came flooding back, burning away the despair. “What the fuck are you doing here?! Shouldn’t you be off serving your

master like a good little dog?!”

I glared at him, pouring all my hatred into that stare.

He didn’t get angry. If anything, he looked… satisfied by my fury. Like my defiance pleased him.

Then he opened his massive jaws-those teeth, God, those fangs-and roared directly in my face. A deafening, primal sound that echoed off the crystal walls and made my bones vibrate,

A warning. A display of dominance.

I flinched despite myself. My heart hammered against my ribs.

Fuck. Even I’m scared of him like this. Kaius, how did you fall so easily? How did she break you so completely?

Then he spoke.

“Elowen. His voice was wrong-deeper than it should be, with an edge of gravel and animalistic growl. But it was speech. Actual words.

“Save your strength. Stop hurting yourself.”

He can talk. Lycans can actually talk.

“Tonight’s ceremony…” He continued, his red eyes boring into mine. “Morgath wants you to appear in perfect condition.”
