Chapter 222
Elowen
We burst out of the laboratory hand in hand, and immediately the world tried to kill us.

The crystalline floor was splintering apart-massive cracks spreading like spiderwebs in every direction. Wolves and witches alike were falling through the fractures, their screams cutting off abruptly as they plunged into darkness below. Strange rivers of liquid-thick, viscous, and glowing with sickly colors-surged through the streets, smashing into buildings with the force of battering rams. Structures
that had stood for who knows how long crumbled like sand castles under the assault.
And above it all, the artificial sun-that purple light that had illuminated this twisted realm-was dying. Fading moment by moment until the sky was almost completely black, lit only by the eerie glow of collapsing magic. Like watching the end of the world in slow motion.
The sounds were worse than the sights.
I could hear the wolves-finally free from magical control-taking their revenge on the witches who’d enslaved them. The wet sound of claws tearing through flesh. Bodies being ripped apart. Screams of agony from both sides.
“Please! Please, we were just following orders!” A witch’s desperate voice cut through the chaos. “It was all Morgath! Everything was her
idea!”
“We had no choice!” Another witch, sobbing. “She controlled us too! We’re victims just like you!”
“Don’t kill me! I’m innocent! I never wanted-”
The pleas blended together into a cacophony of terror and death.
I stopped walking, my feet refusing to move forward. The carnage around us-it was too much. Too horrific.
“Open your lightning rift! Now, Elowen!” Kaius’s voice snapped me out of my paralysis. “We need to leave!”
I hesitated, looking around at the chaos. “But… what about everyone else? The other wolves, the witches-”
Kaius scanned the battlefield, his expression grim. “Your lightning rift doesn’t have enough energy to evacuate this many people. And even if it did-the moment they realize there’s an escape route, they’ll stampede. They’ll kill each other fighting to get through first.” He gripped my hand tighter. “Look at them, Elowen. They’re barely holding onto sanity as it is. You want to risk adding fuel to that fire?”
I let out a shaky breath. “But we can’t just-”
“We can’t save everyone!” His voice softened slightly. “Let this world end. Let it take them with it. We’ve done everything we can.”
I stared at the destruction around us. At wolves tearing into their former captors. At witches begging for mercy they’d never shown others.

At the realm itself tearing apart at the seams.
Then I made my decision.
“No.” My voice came out stronger than I expected. “We didn’t sacrifice everything-didn’t fight this hard, suffer this much-just to let
everyone die here. Including our own people.” I met Kaius’s eyes. “We didn’t come here just to kill Morgath. We came to end this
nightmare for everyone.”

“Elowen, no!” Frustration bled into his voice. “We’re out of time! Look at them-they’re consumed by hatred and revenge! We can’t control
this situation. We can’t-”
I didn’t let him finish.
Instead, I shifted.
After days of being trapped, suppressed, silenced-my white wolf surged forward with explosive joy. My body transformed mid-leap, and
suddenly I was airborne, dancing through the darkening sky on pure instinct and magic.
Below me, the chaos continued. But I had their attention now.
I released my purifying light-letting it pour out of me in waves of silver-white radiance. The glow spread across the battlefield like dawn
breaking through eternal night.
One by one, the fighting stopped.
Wolves looked up, their bloodlust fading as they stared at me with something close to reverence. They began to howl-not in rage or pain, but in recognition. Like greeting the Moon Goddess herself.
The witches fell to their knees, hands raised in supplication.
“The White Wolf!” someone screamed. “It’s the White Wolf!”
“She’s commanding them to stop! Everyone stop fighting!”
“Morgath is dead! The White Wolf has ended this! We don’t need to be enemies anymore!”
The battlefield fell silent except for the rumbling of the collapsing realm.
I glanced down to see Kaius staring up at me, his expression shifting from concern to something else entirely. Admiration. Pride. A slow
smile spread across his face as he seemed to change his mind about the whole thing.
He raised his voice, projecting authority across the crowd. “Listen up! Everyone who wants to live-the White Wolf is going to open a portal! You’ll evacuate in an orderly fashion! Anyone who causes chaos, anyone who tries to cut in line-I’ll personally rip them apart! Is
that understood?!”

I shifted back to human form, landing beside him with a grateful smile.
Then I began to open the lightning rifts

To my shock, the power came easily-far more easily than it ever had before. The energy flowed through me like water, abundant and
eager. Had I absorbed power from the shattered gemstone? Was that even possible?
I didn’t question it. Instead, I opened two rifts simultaneously-one for the wolves, one for the witches.
They organized themselves without prompting. Wolves lined up at one portal, witches at the other, and they moved through with
surprising discipline. One by one, group by group, they disappeared into the rifts and back to the real world.
We were almost done. The last few stragglers were passing through when the sky… changed.
The complete darkness overhead suddenly twisted and warped. Then a face emerged-massive, horrific, covered in burn scars and twisted
with malice.
Morgath’s face.
“Elowen!” The voice boomed across the dying realm, echoing from everywhere and nowhere. “Ha ha ha! Don’t think you’ve actually won!
You’ll pay for this! All of you will PAY!*
Kaius tensed beside me. “We need to leave. Now.”
I stared up at that nightmarish visage, disgust churning in my stomach. “Even dead, she can’t just-
The face opened its mouth and vomited out a massive black tornado.
The wind hit like a physical blow, filled with dark magic and pure malice. It tore across the landscape, ripping apart what little remained
of the realm’s structure.
“Fuck! Still causing problems from beyond the grave!” I dodged to the side as the tornado changed direction-
And went straight for Kaius.
“KAIUS!”
Time seemed to slow. The black wind was seconds from consuming him, from tearing him apart with whatever curse Morgath had left
behind.
I didn’t think. I just moved.
One moment I was in human form; the next I was my white wolf again. I teleported directly to his side, grabbed him by the scruff of his
clothes with my jaws, and leaped-

-straight into my own lightning rift.
The collapsing realm disappeared behind us as we tumbled through the portal, Morgath’s final curse howling impotently at our backs.
We were free.
