Chapter 74
“Vanish how?”
“Like they were never there. Complete disappearance–no scent trail, no tracks, nothing. That level of concealment suggests magical
assistance.”
My blood ran cold. “You’re sure they’re not Kaius’s wolves?”
€758
“Positive. These are all rogues, probably hired by someone with serious resources. And given the supernatural concealment…” Scarlett’s
jaw tightened. “There’s definitely a witch involved.”
“Some witch is playing games near MY barrier?” Evelyn’s eyes lit up with dangerous excitement. “Oh, this is perfect! I haven’t had a proper
magical duel in ages! I should go out there right now and show them what happens when they challenge a master illusionist!”
“Absolutely not,” I said firmly. “You’re already pushing yourself maintaining our concealment. We’re not risking you in some magical
showdown.”
“Agreed,” Scarlett said, her expression growing more serious. “Though we should consider the implications. If they’re hiring rogues and
witches, someone with significant resources is targeting you specifically. This isn’t random-”
“Hey, hey, hey!” Evelyn suddenly interrupted, throwing her arms around both our shoulders with renewed energy. “Relax, Beta! My barrier
is nearly unbreakable–there are maybe three people in this entire world who could get through it. As for figuring out who’s behind this,
we can research that slowly and methodically.”
Her grin turned mischievous. “But right now, you’re both being way too gloomy! Today is a good day–our Alpha made it home alive and
kicked ass doing it! We should be celebrating her safe return, not drowning in worry about problems we can’t solve tonight!”
She had a point. I’d been so focused on the dangers that I’d forgotten to appreciate being alive and free.
“You’re right,” I said, feeling some of the tension leave my shoulders. “We should definitely celebrate.”
By evening, we’d organized an impromptu bonfire celebration. The entire pack gathered in our central clearing, laughing and sharing stories while flames danced against the star–filled sky. I sat with Scarlett and Evelyn on a fallen log, watching our people enjoy a rate
moment of pure happiness.
“This is what I’m fighting to protect,‘ I murmured, warmth spreading through my chest that had nothing to do with the fire.
Scarlett raised her drinking horn. “If every pack could be like this, the world would be a much better place.
“Easy solution,” Evelyn said with a wicked grin. “Just wait until our Alpha becomes queen of all the packs!”

Chapter 74
“IF that ever happens,” I said firmly, “it’ll be because I earned the title myself. Not because I married some controlling Alpha King
“Two rulers are better than one,” Evelyn pointed out pragmatically.
“I have you two,” I countered. “When I become queen…” I grinned at Scarlett. “I’ll get you ten wolves to choose from. Your very own
harem.”
Scarlett choked on her drink. “Absolutely not! I am not running a supernatural dating service!”
I turned to Evelyn. “As for you… I have no idea what your type is. Humans? Warlocks? Vampires? Other witches? I waved my hand
grandly. “I’ll just send you one of everything and see what sticks.”

“I am NOT attracted to other witches!” Evelyn protested. “I’m a proud commitment–phobe! I love being single!”
“Sure you are,” I laughed. “I’m just saying–when I’m queen, I’m totally setting you both up whether you like it or not.” I grinned mischievously, then my expression softened. “But seriously, I’m so grateful to have you both with me! You’re like family to me! We should
never be separated, no matter what happens!”
“That’s the only thing you got right tonight!” Scarlett interrupted, raising her horn higher. “To family! Cheers!”
“To family,” I agreed, clinking my horn against theirs.
“To stubborn women who refuse to accept their obvious destinies,” Evelyn added with a smirk.
