Chapter 88

Scarlett stopped dead in her tracks, bristling with irritation. She whirled around to glare at me, her voice sharp. “Why the hell would I
care about the reasons some guy uses to reject me?”
Though she looked angry, I caught something fragile flickering in her eyes-a vulnerability she was desperately trying to hide.
I stopped walking too, lowering my voice deliberately. “Because I believe his reasons are completely different from what you think. The
Frost you imagine and the real Frost might be worlds apart.” I paused, watching her carefully. “Since I happened to run into you, I might
be able to share some inside information. Otherwise, once I leave, you’ll never know the truth.”
Scarlett looked exasperated, but I could see curiosity and even anticipation creeping into her expression.
“Do you think hearing this will make me feel better or worse?” she asked quietly.
I fixed her with a look full of forbidden temptation. “I believe you’ll regret it if you don’t listen. After hearing this, your life will be filled
with hope again.”
“My life is already full of hope!” she snapped. “I’m just as happy every day as I used to be!*
I smiled knowingly. “Really? Because it seems to me that ever since you met your mate, your life hasn’t been quite as joyful as before.”
*Fuck! Stop acting like you can see right through everything!” Scarlett exploded. “Just tell me! Stop being such a tease!”
I grinned slowly. “Of course, there’s one condition.”
Realization dawned on her face, and suddenly she was full of hostility. “No! I won’t agree to any conditions! I’m not helping you chase my
alpha!”
‘Who said anything about chasing your alpha?’ I laughed. “I just have pack business. I need to retrieve something. I need you to help me
open the barrier later.”
Scarlett looked skeptical. “Why don’t you ask the alpha and the witch?
“Why would I go back and make things awkward for myself? Since I’m doing you a favor, you can return one.”
She considered this, seeming to believe me, but added firmly, ‘Fine, but you leave immediately once you’re out! Don’t go against our alpha’s wishes-she doesn’t want you fighting those rogue wolves!”
I nodded repeatedly. “Lead the way then! I’ll explain Frost’s situation as we walk.”

Chapter 88
As we moved through the pack territory, tall, imposing Scarlett looked like a nervous schoolgirl-tense yet hopeful. Finding her adorable, I
decided not to drag it out.
I explained how Frost had taken the forbidden enhancement drug, lost his natural scent, and felt unworthy of any mate-which was why
he’d rejected her. I kept it brief rather than dwelling on painful details.
Scarlett was stunned, then turned on me with fury. “Fuck! He lost his scent because of you! How could you let him take forbidden drugs?”
Guilt washed over me. “That’s not the only stupid mistake I’ve made,” I said quietly. “Don’t worry-I’ll find a way to restore his scent. I
won’t let him lose his right to a mate.”
Hope sparked in Scarlett’s eyes. After a long silence, she bit her lip and whispered, “If there’s anything… anything I can do to help him…
you can tell me.”
Looking at her earnest expression, I felt a pang of envy. Frost was lucky. Unlike me-my mate hated my guts.
I smiled ruefully. “Well, seems we both care about him. Guess that makes us friends.” I paused. ‘Once I’m out there, I’ll start working on
helping him.”
We soon reached the barrier location. I stared at the barren landscape-just empty hills and rocks. How did this create a forest?
Scarlett jogged over to a large boulder with a mirror mounted on it. She adjusted it to a specific angle, and as sunlight hit the surface, the barrier shimmered open. Suddenly, a vast forest materialized before us.
I couldn’t help but admire the craftsmanship. Though the forest was an illusion, it felt completely real to all senses.
As I stepped toward the treeline, I turned back with a grin. “Thanks, beta. You’re the first friend I’ve made in this pack.”
“Just get back quickly and don’t linger!” she called out. “Watch out for the rogue wolves!”
Just as I was about to disappear into the trees, Scarlett’s voice drifted after me: “Don’t forget to help Frost!”
The barrier gradually closed behind me, and the barren hills vanished as if they’d never existed.
I strolled leisurely through the forest when a distinct scent hit me-rogue wolves gathering nearby. There was also a strange smell l couldn’t identify, like some kind of potion or magic.
I chuckled coldly. “Well, this saves me the trouble of hunting you down.”
My eyes sharpened as I focused on the silent forest, catching subtle sounds of wolves moving from multiple directions. I counted ten of
them.
Remembering Elowen’s claim that five could kill me, I couldn’t stop smiling. Time to show her what an Alpha King can really do. Ten wolves -I’ll kill nine and keep one for Interrogation.

Chapter 88
As I calculated my strategy, the forest stirred with the sound of falling leaves. My heart raced with anticipation.
The moment the leaves touched the ground, an unnaturally white rogue wolf burst from the underbrush. I instantly shifted into my
massive black wolf form and struck, my claws tearing clean through its body.
72
A fake white wolf? I sneered internally. Pathetically weak.
But my smugness evaporated when something shocking happened. The gaping hole in the white wolf’s body began healing rapidly. Within
seconds, the wound sealed completely, and then it vanished like a ghost back into the trees.
A genuine chill ran down my spine.
Fuck. There are ten of these regenerating monsters.
