Chapter 16 Up to Something

Chapter 16 Up to Something

“Were you plotting something when you kept staring at me during the meeting?” Jared’s piercing gaze locked onto Natasha Natasha’s heart gave a sudden jolt.

She hurriedly shook her head. “I… I wouldn’t dare.”

Her voice was tinged with guilt, betraying her nerves.

Truth was, she’d been secretly fantasizing about him for a long time.

But she’d take that secret to her grave-no way she’d ever confess, not even if her life depended on it.

Suddenly, Jared leaned in, caging her in with his arms on either side of the desk behind her.

“You wouldn’t dare? Please, you’re pretty bold-flirting with me in front of everyone in the conference room,” he said. Natasha turned her face away, unable to meet his piercing gaze.

She blurted out, “Mr. Rundell, I… I really didn’t…”

Jared didn’t let her off the hook. “Then why are you blushing? Feeling guilty?”

He boxed her in, leaving Natasha with no way out.

The conference table was hard and cold beneath her hands as Natasha instinctively leaned back, desperately scooting away from him.

She just wanted to keep some distance between them.

Every time she moved back, he moved closer.

In the end, she had nowhere left to run-their bodies were practically pressed together, barely any space between them.

In that moment, Natasha felt her heart skip a beat.

She froze, completely stunned.

Her nerves were going haywire, and Jared was right there, practically pressed up against her…

She was barely holding herself together.

“I./. I really didn’t, Mr. Rundell. Can you please let me go?” Natasha pleaded.

She was panicking, anxiously reminding him to release her.

Jared looked down at her, his eyes dark and intense.

She was clearly at her limit, but still putting up a front.

Her dazed eyes and flushed cheeks were just too damn tempting.

Heat rushed through him.

His instincts took over, and he didn’t even try to hold back.

“Are you sure you want me to let you go, or would you rather I have my way with you right now?” Jared’s voice was low and husky, sending a shiver down her spine.

Natasha’s guarded look vanished in an instant, replaced by pure shock.

She froze, totally dumbstruck.

“M-Mr. Rundell, what did you just say?” she stammered, barely able to get the words out.

She could hardly believe her ears.

Jared locked eyes with her, his voice slow and deliberate. “Do you want me to have my way with you?”

Natasha’s cheeks flushed bright red.

Even the tips of her ears turned crimson.

Her eyes went wide in disbelief.

‘He… he just asked me that? So bluntly?’ Natasha thought, completely stunned.

He’d seen right through her-every little secret she’d been harboring about him.

But there was no way she’d ever come clean about having a thing for her boss.

“I… I’m sorry, Mr. Rundell… It’s just… my nerves are acting up again…” Natasha stammered, biting her lip.

Before she could finish, Jared reached out and gently but firmly took hold of her chin.

She turned her head and got lost in his deep eyes.

Jared stood with the light behind him, casting her in his shadow.

In an instant, Natasha felt like she was swept into a deep, unknown vortex.

An unmistakable heat sparked between them as their eyes locked.

Jared’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he leaned in slightly.

Natasha’s scalp prickled with a sudden rush of nerves.

Her heart thundered in her chest.

Just then, the conference room door swung open.

A voice cut through the charged atmosphere. “Mr. Rundell, Mr. Atkins from Grove International is here…”

A flash of annoyance crossed Jared’s eyes.

He let go of her, straightened up, and shot a deadly glare at the person who’d ruined his moment.

Derek stood there, like a deer in headlights.

He was Jared’s former assistant, just got transferred back from overseas.

He never expected to catch his boss in the act on his very first day.

Jared snapped, “Are you still standing there? Get lost!”

Derek jolted back to reality, his face burning with embarrassment as he rushed out.

Natasha was startled by Jared’s outburst, her nerves instantly on edge.

She worried his anger might spill over onto her.

Keeping her head down, she scurried out of the room in a hurry and headed straight for the restroom.

She cupped her hands under the cold water and splashed it onto her face several times.

The fire burning inside her finally cooled off a bit.

But no matter how hard she tried, Jared’s presence kept lingering in her mind.

‘Did he really want to kiss me just now?’ Natasha wondered, her heart still pounding. ‘There’s no way. Seriously, he’s the CEO.

But when Jared pressed her against the desk earlier, she could feel the heat between them-his desire was unmistakable.

If no one had interrupted them, things could’ve gotten real.

They probably would’ve kissed.

Maybe even gone all the way.

Natasha’s thoughts were all over the place.

Her breath quickened again.

Not wanting her condition to get any worse, she rushed back to her office and popped her medication.

Jared watched Natasha make her escape, his gaze shadowed and brooding.

He could still smell her on himself, her scent lingering in the air.

That tempting fragrance had been driving him crazy at work these past few days.

And it wasn’t just at work-at home, in bed, whenever… she kept popping into his mind, no matter what he was doing.

Especially when her nerves acted up and she looked so desperate and unsatisfied-it was that hungry, wanting look in her eyes.

That alone made his whole body burn with desire.

‘Damn it!’ Jared muttered.

He pinched the bridge of his nose, frustration etched across his face.

He knew all too well about her condition-everything she did, all those reactions, were just symptoms flaring up.

It didn’t mean she was actually into him or had any special feelings for him.

But damn, he couldn’t help wanting her.

Natasha didn’t find out until later that afternoon that there was a new assistant to the CEO.
