Chapter 189 He’s Jealous

Chapter 189 He’s Jealous

Now that they were divorced. Normally, they would each return to their own families for Christmas and stay out of each other’s business. But Percy had wanted Natasha to accompany him back to the Grosso mansion.

“No, I don’t want to go,” Natasha said bluntly.

Percy stared at her in disbelief. It was as if he had never expected her to refuse him. Back then, when she begged Percy to bring her back to the Grosso family for Christmas, he always felt she was just an illegitimate child from a mistress who would bring him shame.

Now, he finally gave her a chance. ‘Shouldn’t she be thrilled and grateful? he thought. Instead, she just turned him down flat, her face icy. This totally blew Percy’s mind; he had to rethink everything he knew about her.

“Don’t worry. I’ll be there with you. I won’t let anyone in the Grosso family mess with you,” Percy said, making a rare promise.

Back then, Percy was just the Grosso family’s illegitimate son, and nobody took him seriously. And as his wife, Natasha always got the cold shoulder and sneers from the Grosso family whenever she showed up with him. But now, everything had changed.

His older brother was barely hanging on. Percy was about to step up as the Grosso family’s rightful heir. With her status as his wife, going back with him now meant she wouldn’t have to put up with the same old crap in the past.

Moreover, he had personally promised to protect her. ‘What else does she want?’ Percy thought, feeling a bit upset.

Natasha scoffed, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Am I supposed to be so grateful and shed tears?”

Percy’s face said it all; he really did expect her to be grateful. But Natasha said coldly, “Sorry, like I said, I don’t want to go. Ask someone else.”

Percy’s expression turned gloomy, his good looks shadowed by anger. He couldn’t help but remind her, “Don’t forget, you’ve signed a confidentiality agreement with me. You agreed to go back to the Grosso mansion as my wife.”

Natasha frowned. She paused, words on the tip of her tongue, but she held back. “If you’re going to force me with that agreement, then I guess I have no choice but to give in. But…”

Percy cut in immediately, “But what?” His tone was sharp, unwilling to let her leave it hanging.

Natasha met his eyes. “But honestly, I thought you’d take Joelle back with you. After all, she’s single now. Isn’t this the best time for you to make a move on her?”

‘If I could nudge him toward Joelle, perhaps I could finally come clean about our split, and no need to keep up the act and stay tangled with him even after the divorce, she thought.

Percy’s eyes flickered with uncertainty. “Honestly, who knows what the future holds for Joelle and me?”

Natasha was taken aback. She had always thought that now Joelle was single, Percy would jump at the chance to marry her. But instead, he said their future was still uncertain. ‘That’s seriously weird, Natasha thought, feeling unsettled.

Natasha squinted at him, a hint of challenge in her voice. “So, does this have something to do with the owner of that handkerchief?”

She had always figured that the whole thing between Percy and Joelle started because of that handkerchief. Percy had always believed Joelle was the one who rescued him back when he was bullied as a kid.

But she had always felt that Percy’s feelings for Joelle went beyond that. Yet his hesitation now made her doubt it.

Percy’s brows furrowed. “I’m now investigating it,” he said.

If he managed to uncover the truth and the handkerchief belonged to someone else, and if Joelle really dared to lie to him, she would be in serious trouble. He would make sure she paid for it.

Natasha pressed her lips together, genuinely surprised. Since he said he was investigating, it meant her words had actually made an impact. He was really starting to doubt Joelle.

Even that alone was strange enough. Percy had never doubted Joelle before. ‘Is it really that forbidden love is the most thrilling?’ Natasha thought to herself.

‘So after both Percy and Joelle got divorced, their feelings for each other actually cooled off?’ Natasha thought, amused by the irony.

Just as Natasha was about to say further, Percy’s phone suddenly started vibrating. He glanced at the screen, moved off to the side, and answered, “Yes?”

“Mr. Percy Grosso.” It was his assistant, Franklin, on the other end. “Something big just happened! Mr. Brent Grosso is dead.”

Hearing his words, Percy’s face went pale, his knuckles white as he gripped his phone, shaking with shock and excitergent ‘Brent is dead! He’s finally dead! I’ve been waiting for this day,’ Percy thought, feeling triumphant and stunned all at once Percy suddenly let out an eerie laugh. The veins at Natasha’s temples twitched. There was something indescribably strange about him like this, almost a little unhinged.

“Are you okay?” Natasha asked, her voice tinged with confusion.

Percy narrowed his eyes and suddenly turned to look at her. His eyes were stormy with emotion, barely contained. “You’ll soon see a completely different side of me.”

He said that meaningfully. There was a mysterious depth in his expression that Natasha couldn’t decipher. Natasha’s brows furrowed, a hint of confusion on her face. She couldn’t figure out what he was trying to say.

Percy was never for wild mood swings. He was always calm and collected. Having grown up estranged from the Grosso family, he had learned to be cautious after being brought back into their world, always keeping his real emotions hidden. ‘What has happened this time to make Percy show his emotions so openly?’ Natasha wondered, her mind spinning. But Percy didn’t explain a word. He turned on his heel and hurried out of her hospital room, leaving Natasha with a head full of questions.

When Natasha was discharged from the hospital, Jared came to pick her up in person. “The discharge has been taken care of. We can leave now,” Jared said, his voice soft as he reached out and wrapped his arm around her waist.

Natasha didn’t respond for a while. She was still thinking about the weird way Percy had acted when he left. Noticing Natasha was lost in thought, Jared gave her waist a sharp squeeze, hard enough to snap her out of it. Natasha let out a small cry, wincing from the sudden pain.

Jared leaned in close, his breath warm against her ear. “What were you thinking about?”

Natasha blurted out, “Percy!” As soon as the word slipped out, she realized what she had just said and immediately regretted it.

Jared’s heart gave a sharp pang. A flicker of hurt crossed his handsome face. “You were actually thinking about your husband?” he asked, his voice laced with jealousy. His chest was heaving, unable to calm down.
