Chapter 23 Percy Saw the Jacket
Chapter 23 Percy Saw the Jacket
Natasha admitted to herself that she had chickened out.
But Jared didn’t let her off the hook. His sharp eyes locked onto her. “What’s wrong? Scared?”
“Who said I’m scared?” Natasha shot back instinctively.
Still, her gaze dropped, and she didn’t dare meet his eyes again. The guilt showed all over her face.
“Look up and say that again,” Jared ordered.
Natasha’s body trembled on instinct. His tōre alone made her tense up.
A sudden cramp twisted in Natasha’s lower abdomen. Her face turned pale in an instant.
Jared waited for an answer and didn’t get one. His impatience began to show. “Ms. Whittier, I’m waiting.” Natasha clenched her teeth. “Can you leave for a minute?”
The pain in her lower abdomen kept building. Cold sweat formed on her forehead.
‘I’m probably having period cramps, Natasha thought.
“You!” Jared’s face darkened. His temper was about to explode.
Then he quickly noticed something was wrong with Natasha.
“What’s wrong with you?” Jared asked urgently as he pulled her into his arms.
The pain in Natasha’s abdomen grew worse. Thankfully, she could lean against him.
Otherwise she might have collapsed right there.
“Say something. Damn it, where does it hurt?” Jared asked again. Her silence made him even more irritated.
Jared almost barked the words, though the concern on his handsome face was impossible to hide.
Natasha just bit her lip and shook her head. ‘How am I supposed to say something like that to a grown man?’
“Is it your stomach?” Jared’s sharp black eyes swept over her body.
Finally, they landed on the hands she had pressed tightly against her lower abdomen.
Natasha nodded, wincing from the pain.
Jared immediately grabbed her arm. “Come on. I’m taking you to the hospital.”
Natasha froze for a second, then quickly protested, “I’m not going.”
Jared’s brows shot up again. “Why?”
Natasha replied stubbornly, “No reason. I just don’t want to go.”
Jared lifted her up and set her on the desk. “Fine. If you won’t go to the hospital, I’ll check you myself.”
As he spoke, he reached for the hem of her skirt.
Natasha’s eyes widened in panic. ‘How did I forget he’s a doctor too?’
The last time Natasha went to the hospital, Jared had been the one who examined her.
‘Is he seriously about to do that again?’ Natasha thought, her heart racing with embarrassment.
“No, really, that’s not necessary,” Natasha cried out in alarm.
Natasha thought, ‘Getting my period is embarrassing enough. If I faint from stress on top of that, it’ll be even worse.’
“If you won’t let me look, how are you going to handle this much pain?” Jared couldn’t help feeling distressed when he saw her like this. The worry made him both angry and anxious.
“It’s just my period, okay? It’s not some serious illness. Besides, I’ve been working overtime every day. Of course I’m exhausted.” Natasha shot him a resentful glare and spoke irritably.
Natasha knew if she didn’t tell him the truth now, Jared would actually pull down her skirt to check.
That would be far more embarrassing.
Jared froze for a moment. Then realization dawned on him. “Your period?” he repeated.
Natasha cleared her throat. “Yeah. Can you let go of me now?”
Jared immediately released his grip.
Natasha quickly hopped down from the desk and straightened her clothes. “I want to leave early tonight.”

Her stomach still hurt badly. There was no way she could stay and work overtime.
After waiting a moment without hearing a response, Natasha looked up at him. “Can I just take the evening off?”
‘He wouldn’t be heartless enough to make me keep working like this, right?’ Natasha thought, a little desperate
Jared’s deep gaze dropped to her skirt. Then he reminded her calmly. “Your skirt looks like it’s stained.”
Natasha frowned and turned to look behind her.
The moment she saw the dried bloodstain on the back of her skirt, Natasha almost screamed.
‘Nothing in the world is more embarrassing than your boss noticing you’s gotten period blood on your clothes, Natasha thought.
Natasha had been getting her period since middle school and had never had an accident like this.
Right then, it felt like a bolt from the blue. She wished she could dig a hole in the ground and disappear.
At that point, Natasha didn’t even care whether Jared approved or not. She hurriedly gathered her things and prepared to leave.
“Where are you going?” Jared stopped her.
Natasha looked ashamed. “I’m going home to change. I’ll come back to work tomorrow.”
Jared’s expression gradually softened. There was even a hint of a smile at the corner of his mouth. “I’ll drive you.”
Natasha shook her head quickly, flustered. “No need to trouble you.”
Jared’s expression turned serious, his gaze deep and unreadable.
He strode over, took off his suit jacket, and draped it over her shoulders. “Wear this on the way home.”
Natasha looked at him in shock. ‘Is he seriously planning to stick around until someone else comes to watch over me?
The feeling in her chest was impossible to describe.
“Thank you,” Natasha blurted out without thinking.
“It’s nothing.” Jared watched her with concern as she left.
It wasn’t until Natasha stepped out of the office that she finally breathed a little easier.
But the men’s jacket around her shoulders was very noticeable.
Unfortunately her skirt was stained, and Natasha couldn’t exactly take it off now.
So she had no choice but to keep the jacket wrapped around herself the whole way.
When the elevator doors opened, Frank happened to be inside.
Natasha’s stomach still hurt, and she had no energy to deal with him. She lowered her head, stepped in, and pressed the close button.
Frank immediately noticed the men’s jacket she was wearing.
Frank was about to question her, but the elevator doors were already closing. He had no choice but to step out for now.
Later, the more Frank thought about it, the stranger it seemed. So he reported the whole thing to Roxanne.

By the time Natasha got home, it was already past ten.
She had worked all day and just gotten her period. Her whole body felt drained. All she wanted was to go to her room and
rest.
But at that moment, Percy’s bedroom door opened.
