Chapter 96 He Kept Her Behind
Chapter 96 He Kept Her Behind
The next day.
When Natasha woke up, Jared was already gone.
After washing up, she went downstairs and noticed the breakfast spread looked different from what she was used to.
“Ms. Whittier, Mr. Rundell personally cooked breakfast for you today,” Margot said, smiling at her.
Natasha was taken aback.
‘Jared actually made breakfast for me?’ Natasha thought.
Jared never struck her as the kind of man who’d cook.
In her mind, someone like Jared, born into wealth and privilege, would never bother with something as ordinary as cooking.
She’d been married to Percy for more than a year, and not once had she seen Percy set foot in the kitchen.
Natasha sat down at the table and hesitantly took a bite of the bowl of pasta.
To her surprise, it was shockingly good.
She suddenly found herself ravenous.
She polished off the whole bowl in no time.
‘Who knew Jared could cook like this?’ Natasha thought, genuinely impressed.
‘He can hold his own in any setting, elegant in public, and as impressive in the kitchen.
‘Whoever ends up marrying him will be one lucky woman.’
Natasha shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts.
‘Whether Jared makes someone a lucky wife or not, what does it have to do with me? Besides, even if he does get married, it won’t be to me, Natasha thought
After breakfast, Natasha got changed and headed to the office.
Ever since she was suspected of leaking the BC Project Plan, she’d been staying away from work, both to help Jared track. down the real mole and to keep herself safe.
After what happened with Gordon, she took another couple of days off to recover.
All in all, Natasha hadn’t set foot in the office for over a week.
Now that Natasha was back at the office, her coworkers welcomed her with smiles and friendly hellos, checking in on her.
After Marsh confessed to everything, the company wasted no time in firing him.
Everyone now knew Marsh was the real mole behind the BC Project Plan leak.
Natasha had been wrongly accused, so she got a lot of sympathy from her coworkers.
But she barely had time to exchange pleasantries with her coworkers.
After missing a few days at the office, she was faced with a mountain of work that had piled up.
Natasha was so swamped all morning that she didn’t even have a second to grab a drink, let alone see Jared.
It wasn’t until the afternoon meeting that she finally got a chance to see Jared.
He was dressed in a sharp suit, poised and aristocratic, looking every inch the cold, untouchable boss he always was.
He was a far cry from the man who’d been so clingy in her bed last night.
Natasha didn’t let her gaze linger on Jared for long.
She quickly turned away and took a seat at the conference table.
Right now, she was at work. She shouldn’t let herself get carried away with any wishful thoughts about Jared.
No matter what was happening between them in private, here at the office, he was still Mr. Rundell, and she wa his assistant.
Thankfully, no one else in the conference room seemed to notice anything unusual about her.
Natasha breathed a silent sigh of relief and focused all her attention on the meeting, determined to stay on track.
Two hours later, the meeting finally wrapped up.
Like everyone else, Natasha started gathering her things, ready to head out.

Suddenly, Jared’s voice cut through the room. “Ms. Whittier, stay behind for a moment.”
Natasha froze in her tracks.
She was caught off guard.
‘What does Jared want with me now?’ Natasha thought.
Natasha stayed frozen, still in the same spot, even after everyone else had left the conference room.
She didn’t dare turn around to look at Jared.
She was afraid someone might notice something was off between them.
Even though they hadn’t officially defined their relationship, they’d already crossed all the lines they shouldn’t have.
They definitely had a thing going on now.
Natasha was worried her coworkers might pick up on their relationship.
She didn’t want them to start seeing her in a different light.
And she absolutely didn’t want to become the subject of office gossip, like the one accused of seducing the boss and sleeping her way to the top.
She heard footsteps approaching from behind her, growing steadily closer.
Natasha knew right away. It was Jared.
She didn’t turn around. Instead, her body automatically straightened.
A few seconds later, she felt his hands reach around from behind.
Then, his firm, broad chest pressed against her back.
Natasha drew in a sharp breath.
This was the conference room.
They’d just had a meeting here with their coworkers.
The door was still open. Anyone could walk in at any moment.
And now, Mr. Rundell had his arms wrapped around her from behind. If anyone walked in and saw them like this, there’d be. no way to talk their way out of it.
“Mr. Rundell, please, stop…” Natasha begged.
She instinctively tried to pull away from his arms.
But Jared only tightened his hold around her waist, drawing her even closer.
“Why aren’t you calling me Jared anymore?” he murmured, his tone playful right by her ear.
His warm breath brushed against her delicate skin, sending waves of tingling numbness through her body.
Natasha trembled, unable to control herself.
She instinctively turned her head away, trying to escape the heat of his breath.
“Let me go…” Natasha protested again.
But instead of letting her go, Jared’s hand slipped beneath her blouse.
As his fingers wandered, he asked, “Why not take a few more days off before coming back to work?”
Natasha tugged at her lips. “I’ve missed too much work.”
Jared murmured, “I can have Derek cover the work you’ve missed.”
Natasha hesitated. “Wouldn’t that be too much trouble for Mr. Mulder?”
Derek was Jared’s executive assistant, and he already had more work than he could handle every day.
Natasha didn’t have the nerve to ask Derek for even more help.
Jared said with a sly smile, “Don’t worry about Derek. Just focus on me.”
Natasha was silent.
Honestly, Jared might as well have spelled it out. She only needed to devote herself to him, be at his beck and call, and let him do whatever he wanted.
Natasha swallowed hard, her throat suddenly dry.
Her thoughts were all over the place.
