When Bai Feng woke up, he felt dizzy and sick. He could feel a fire burning in his throat as he reached out to the cabinet that was on the side of his bed. However, as soon as his hands touched the empty water jar, he realised that the world was no longer the same as it was before.
He got up from the bed and went to the kitchen. He didn’t even hear the slight tearing noise when he stood up, where he started to look for a few sips of water. Bai Feng thought that even if his family ate the food he brought with him, they would at least leave a bottle of water for him.
Of course, he remembered the things that happened when he passed out due to fever and it made him feel tangled. However, Bai Feng didn’t want to think too much; after all, even though Bai Xue threw him out of the house, she brought him back inside too.
Maybe she regretted her actions?
"Brother, are you awake?" Su Hu, who heard the rummaging sound, stepped out of the room with a baseball bat clutched tightly in his hands.
He didn’t want to but Bai Xue pushed him out. She told him that if it was a mutated rat, then they would lose their supplies and without Bai Feng, they wouldn’t be able to get more unless help came.
Thus, when he stepped out, he expected a large rat but not Bai Feng after all; they had tied him up. He looked at Bai Feng’s wrists, which were slightly red due to the ropes that were tied around his hands and felt his lips twitch when he noticed that the ropes had been broken by Bai Feng.
What kind of ropes did Bai Xue use to tie Bai Feng? It was a good thing that this man didn’t turn into a zombie because if he did, with such weak ropes, he would have attacked them by now.
Bai Feng straightened up. Because he was still dizzy, he didn’t sense anything amiss. He looked at Su Hu and asked, "Where—where is the water that I brought earlier?"
"Oh, that…we went to see Bai Meiyue," Su Hu lied when Bai Xue poked him on the back. "We gave the water to her; after all, we are all in the same boat now. Even if she is upset with us, it is us who did something to let her down, which is why I—I suggested to Xuexue to give the water to Meiyue."
"That insensible girl brought her brothers and mother to the city; even if she acted foolishly, I and Xuexue couldn’t watch them suffer. So we gave the water away. I—I am sorry, Brother Feng."
Of course, Su Hu was lying; the truth was that he and the Bai family had long hidden the supplies after equally dividing them. They didn’t want to share the supplies with anyone, even between themselves. Now that the supplies were hidden, he couldn’t take them out, right?
If he did, then he would have to tell Bai Feng what he did. So even if Su Hu felt a bit bad about hiding the water bottles, he decided to ignore this little guilty conscience. After all, Bai Feng could survive that bad fever; a little thirst wouldn’t kill him.
Bai Feng, who had just sat down on the floor to put his shoes on, paused and turned to look at the woman behind him.
He eyed her with suspicion, which made Bai Xue blush.
She lowered her head and spoke gently, "I am not asking for myself; it’s because of Aunt Yan and the rest. They were called to the city from the countryside by Sister Yueyue. I wonder if they have enough to eat or drink these days. No matter what, Aunt Yan was once Dad’s wife and Brother Zhan and Brother Jixuan are my brothers as well… I cannot watch them starve to death because of Sister Yueyue’s selfish actions."
After she finished speaking, she was quite satisfied. With these words, she not only made Bai Meiyue look like an insensible brat but she also shook her hands off the responsibility.
"Bai Xue!" however just when she was feeling smug, she heard Bai Feng grind his teeth out and look at her with a dissatisfied look on his face. "Worry about yourself, alright? We do not have the time or the power to worry about others."
She wanted to help Bai Meiyue? Did that woman even need her help to begin with? freewēbnoveℓ.com
