Lei Qian raised his head in surprise. He asked, "No, why would you—"
"I was also looking for a way to escape from the old pervert," Bai Meiyue slowly started to recall the events of that night. She now more or less knew that it was her who rushed to Lei Qian’s room and asked him to take her in. A man who was more or less intoxicated, how could he resist the temptation when a woman begs him to ’help’ her?
In fact, Bai Meiyue was glad that it was Lei Qian and not that old pervert. She didn’t know a lot about that old man that Bai Qingshi picked up for her, but with Chu Xia and Bai Xue guiding the plan from behind, how could that old man be any good?
She heard bits and pieces about that man and none of them were good things. That old man was sadistic and liked using all kinds of means to make his partner feel pain. There was another rumour where the old man was said to have that venerable disease.
If she had fallen in the hands of that old man, she would have been ruined.
And…
She placed her hands on her lower abdomen with a soft expression. Lei Qian, how would she get pregnant with Xiao Cai? In a way, Lei Qian had given her the family that she always craved in her past life. If not for Xiao Cai, she would have never gotten any chance to make warm memories. All her good memories were related to her little son.
"But I—"
"Don’t think too much." Bai Meiyue closed her eyes and went to sleep. "I never blamed you—after all, you have saved me in more than one way."
Lei Qian was even more confused by her words but he never got a chance to question what she meant by ’he saved her more than one way,’ because Bai Meiyue had already closed her eyes and gone to sleep. Seeing that she was asleep, Lei Qian sighed and didn’t disturb her any more.
He covered her with a blanket and then went to sleep as well.
That night everyone in the team except Bai Meiyue and Jiang Haidai made rounds to make sure that the farmhouse was protected. However, as the sun slowly started rising, they noticed more and more zombies circling the gigantic mud walls that Yang Chunhua had created around the house.
These zombies must have smelt the scent of humans and were now getting antsy to attack them.
The sound of their roars continued to get louder and louder.
Bai Meiyue, who was sleeping peacefully, frowned and woke up when she heard the roars of the zombies.
"They are discussing how to deal with these many zombies." Bai Zhan glanced at his sister and noticed her rolling her eyes. Seeing her actions, he was amused. "Don’t be like that, unlike you—we are not as skilled."
"Who said anything about skills?" Bai Meiyue rolled her eyes and handed the can of coke to her brother. "Making plans to deal with zombies is stupid. They don’t have the same rationality and thought process as humans; they rely on their senses. Plans only work when we are dealing with humans; at least we know how the other person will respond."
"How can zombies be the same? Isn’t it a waste of time planning and thinking about what their next step would be if they are attacked?"
Bai Meiyue was exasperated when she thought how these people were still not used to the changes in the world. This was not the time to plan and deal with one thing at a time. This was a dog-eat-dog world; the one who attacked first with the strongest ferocity would be the one standing at the top.
When Bai Zhan heard Bai Meiyue’s words, he was stunned. At first, he thought that Bai Meiyue was underestimating these zombies but when he finished processing what Bai Meiyue had said, he slowly blinked his eyes and realised that what his sister said was indeed correct!
These zombies were mindless creatures who had no idea what they were doing. How could they be dealt with tactics?
Bai Zhan’s eyelids twitched, and he squinted his eyes at his sister, who was staring back at him with a smug look. "You naughty little monkey," he pinched her cheek with a helpless look on his face and stated, "Very well, do what you want."
