"Who?"

In the dim light of the room, Bai Meiyue suddenly turned to look around the room when she felt a presence around her. Her hand flew up and she covered her belly with it; her eyes sharply looked around, but then a familiar scent fluttered over to her and she calmed down.

"Lei Qian?"

Lai Qian, who was sitting on the couch, stood up, and his lean yet muscular figure walked over to the bed where Bai Meiyue was half lying and half sitting.

He smiled at her gently when Lei Qian saw Bai Meiyue looking at him with her sleepy eyes.

Seeing the man smile at her, Bai Meiyue rolled her eyes. She said to him, "What are you doing here?"

The man must have taken a shower before coming to her room, because she could no longer smell the scent of blood from his clothes anymore.

"I was with my grandfather, but before going to sleep, I wanted to talk with you, but your mom told me that you are asleep. I just wanted to take a look and then leave, but who would have thought that you are such a light sleeper?"

He paused and added, "And I also had a meeting with the rest of the team."

"Meeting?" Bai Meiyue raised her brow and questioned, "What happened? Did something go amiss when I was sleeping?"

"Well, I talked with Wan Guofu, and he seems to know Yu Miaomiao." Lei Qian sat down on the bed and took hold of her hand in his. He rubbed the pad of his thumb on the back of her hand and said to her, "These past few days, I’ve missed your touch."

Bai Meiyue coughed and sputtered when she heard the words of the man. She pulled her hand away from Lei Qian and avoided his touch. Usually, she dealt with him carelessly, as Bai Meiyue thought that Lei Qian was only playing with her. But after seeing the man rejecting Yu Miaomiao and that too so blatantly, she felt like the man in front of her was different from what she knew.

"Wan Guofu told me the military researchers and the officials knew about the zombie infestation. They knew what was going on, and they also knew what it would lead to, but instead of letting the commoners know, they hid the truth and kept to themselves such that they could collect more supplies for themselves without the commoners fighting for them."
