The man softly added, "Anyway, there is no point in taking them along. Sooner or later, they will drag our team down; it will be better if you send them to the safe base run by Bai Meiyue. That way, they will have a better future, and we will survive without any hassle as well. I don’t even want to imagine how messy the entire situation is going to become once we bring them along with us and we slowly start running out of supplies."
He then shrugged and added, "Of course, if you do not wish to, then we can always take them with us, but you should be prepared for the worst. Because if we take so many people with us, then they are bound to start feeling resentful when we cannot provide them with supplies."
After he finished speaking, the man turned on his feet and headed off to the parking lot where the buses were parked, leaving Chief Li to stare at the children and the elderly. He had to admit that the more he looked at them, the more he realised that these people were simply a burden on him and even more on their supplies. They had limited resources to begin with; if they were to share those supplies with the elderly and the children—could they even reach the safe base in the capital without dying?
With a frown on his face, he finally decided to make the decision that might be for the betterment of everyone.
"Mom!!"
"Mom!! Don’t leave me."
"Mom, I am scared."
Chief Li watched the two-year-old child stretching out his hand towards his mother while crying. He yelled and screamed while watching his mother being dragged away by the soldiers. However, the one who was holding him up in the air wouldn’t let him go. The little boy used his feet to hit the soldier who was holding him up in the air, but no matter how hard he struggled, the man wouldn’t let him go and harshly shoved him into the arms of an old grandfather who was trembling due to fear and worry.
These people had taken away his daughter-in-law and left his grandson with him. He already had a very good idea what these men had in mind, but he was too weak to fight back and could only watch his daughter-in-law being dragged as she fought tooth and nail with the soldier who was dragging her. But ultimately, she was a woman, and there was nothing that she could do against the man who was more powerful than her in terms of strength.
"My son! Let me go!" The woman wept the name of her son as she scratched and bit the arms that were pulling her along, but nothing seemed to be working, making her look even more helpless.
Seeing that the woman still had a lot of fight within her, one of the soldiers ran out of the circle and smacked her at the back of her neck with the handle of his gun, knocking the woman outcold.
