Day forty-eight of lockdown.

The end was finally in sight.

Ryan’s calls went from every other day to twice a day.

still not me he was calling. Always Diana.

But every single conversation was about me.

She’s been talking to lawyers?”

Wait, she’s working again? At the institute?”

What’s her vibe? She say anything about working things out?”

Hlana’s response never changed: “Ask her yourself. I’m staying out of it”

ive years he told me he was allergic.

ive years I believed him.

When I got home that night, I moved Diana’s stuff out of the master bedroom.

All of it. Into the spare room.

Then I grabbed the last of Ryan’s clothes still hanging in the doset-couple old shirts, a jacket-folded them, shoved them in a box, buried it in the storage closet.

Turned around and disappeared into the spare room.

That night I slept right in the middle of the king bed. Tossed both extra pillows on the floor.

Our wedding photo was still on the nightstand.

flipped it face-down.

Didn’t throw it away.

le could deal with it when he came crawling back.

Harrison’s final email came through around midnight.

‘ull breakdown. Full litigation strategy.

ne: Reverse that bullshit property sale. Claw back the $840K he basically gave away.
