"Span."

The air before him rippled, and a furry creature materialized in their midst.

The Eternal Span’s large eyes swept over the group with a distinctly unamused look before shifting toward the battlefield.

A faint glint passed through his gaze, not shock, but something closer to recognition, as though he had seen it before, and seeing it up close carried its own weight.

At last, his attention returned to Atticus, his expression flattening once more.

"Why have you summoned me, child?"

"I want information."

"Of course." The Span gave a small nod. "Ask your questions, and quickly. My time is valuable."

"First, where are we?"

"This is the outer reaches of the First Crown. The starting stage for any god ascending into the Crown."

"First Crown... does that mean there are more Crowns?"

"...Limit your questions to the First Crown. The Crown rules forbid otherwise."

Atticus frowned, but gave a small nod.

"Tell me everything about the beasts that just attacked us."

The Span inclined his head, as though he had been expecting the question.

"These beasts are called Reverent. Their origins are unknown—only that they appeared without warning and have since become a major threat within the Crown. They occupy most regions of this land and act as an ever-present antagonistic force."

"Their will... is known as Primal Will. Its origin is also unknown, but it is undoubtedly a higher form of will—capable of standing against Crown Will."

Atticus’ brow furrowed slightly.

"...Crown Will?"

"Mhm. It is the will borne by the descendants of the Crown. It represents the will of the Crown itself. I believe you’ve already encountered it." The Eternal Span gestured toward Gladious, who remained trapped within the crimson dome.

"He would be considered one of the lesser ones. His purity is low."

Atticus’ expression remained unchanged, though his thoughts shifted.

Was this why he hadn’t been able to take control of Gladious’ will? Even in a diluted state, it was still the will of the Crown... of a Star. Still, this was the first time he was hearing that a Star possessed a will of its own.

Pushing the thought aside for now, Atticus moved on.

"If this is the First Crown... then how do we ascend?"

The Eternal Span gave a small nod, as though he had been waiting for that.

The others, who had been listening in silence, leaned in slightly, not wanting to miss a word.

"...Upon entering any Crown, you’re given quests that must be fulfilled before you can ascend. They’re usually split into two, the main quest and the side quest. The main one is harder and meant for the head hunter, which in this case is you. You’ll still need to complete the side quest, but your subordinates, the minor hunters, have to complete it as well. That said, both quests are usually the same for every god within the Crown."

"...What are they?"

"Call out your quests to view them."
