As he spoke, his gaze swept lightly across everyone present.
Yvonne was the first to speak.
“I’m sorry, Mr, Carter Sr. We were just too anxious and wanted to resolve this as soon as possible.”
At once, Charles and Michelle nodded in agreement. “Yes, Mr. Carter Sr., we truly couldn’t wait any longer, so we came ahead of time and disturbed you.”
“Alright. Sit down.”
Philip walked straight to the main seat in the hall. Even with a cane in hand and a slight stoop to his back, his presence remained sharp and spirited.
Seeing this, Aurora felt an even deeper sense of admiration.
She did not see Philip often.
Each rare encounter left her quietly impressed.
Elderly men with such vitality were truly uncommon.
Whenever Aurora spoke with Lucas about Philip, Lucas’ eyes always carried unmistakable reverence.
Lucas was already formidable in the business world.
Anyone he admired was bound to be extraordinary.
There was no doubt the old man was a force to be reckoned with.
Once Philip took his seat, everyone else settled in along both sides.
Philip lifted his gaze toward the Song family. “Go on. What exactly has happened?”
Yvonne felt Lucas’ and Aurora’s curious gazes drift toward her again and again.
In that instant, embarrassment washed over her.
“Mr. Carter Sr., may we speak somewhere more private?”
She shifted uneasily, unwilling to expose her wounds in front of so many people.
Philip frowned, clearly displeased.
In his view, Yvonne was being overly delicate.
They had already come seeking the Carter family’s help.
Yet now she was still finding fault at the moment that mattered.
However, mindful of old ties, Philip did not take matters that far.
Most of the time, they were either working or on their way to work.
How often did they ever have the chance to sit face-to-face and simply talk?
Moments like this were precious—one less every time they passed.
While conversation flowed outside, things were no less intense inside the study.
After Philip took his seat, Yvonne could not hold back any longer.
“Mr. Carter Sr., you have to help me.”
Charles and Michelle were both taken aback.
What was their daughter saying?
This was nothing like what they had discussed beforehand.
Hadn’t they gone over this already, even worrying about what would happen if Philip sided with his own grandson?
After all, no one was a saint.
If something like that happened, it would hardly be unexpected.
