“So, you think none of what I’ve done has actually been carried out?”
“Isn’t that obvious?”
At first, Tessa had been genuinely afraid.
Grace had blocked the entrance with bodyguards, each one looking fierce and intimidating.
More importantly, every single one of them was armed.
And worst of all, they had run straight into them just as they were about to flee.
Thinking about it now, Tessa felt her luck had truly run out.
For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.
Sean, however, reacted quickly.
“So if you haven’t really stepped away, doesn’t that just prove that everyone has things they can’t accomplish?”
He looked at Grace steadily.
“Why insist so rigidly? We didn’t manage to succeed either, did we?”
They had been on the verge of succeeding.
If Grace hadn’t shown up at the last moment, he and Tessa might already have gotten what they wanted.
They had even planned to leave afterward, to stop involving themselves altogether but Grace had appeared again.
So, this was bound to drag on endlessly.
Only when one side backed down, or chose not to pursue it any further, could this truly end.
At those words, Grace’s fingers slowly curled.
She hadn’t expected Sean to be this shameless.
Beside him, Tessa lifted her chin slightly, stunned.
She hadn’t realized the situation could be twisted like this.
What was worse, Sean’s argument almost sounded reasonable.
Every word landed squarely on Grace’s sore spots.
Tessa knew this very well.
“How can you speak like that?”
Before Grace could respond, he blurted it out.
Grace immediately stopped him.
“Arnold, wait.”
She turned to him and said firmly, “Leave this to me. You don’t need to get involved.”
“That doesn’t seem right, ma’am,” Arnold said, unable to hold back.
“No matter what, they’re slandering the late Mr. Walton and you. As the housekeeper, I can’t just stand by.”
“I said I’m handling this,” Grace replied, her voice growing colder.
Tessa, who knew Grace well, felt her heart begin to pound.
She understood this all too clearly, even when Grace was furious, she maintained her composure.
After all, she had spent years running a major corporation.
If she let her emotions show too easily, others would have no trouble reading her next move.
