Before the entire Stewart family, Xavier completely lost his composure with Luke, publicly humiliating the young man on the spot.

Luke, still young and impulsive, couldn’t bear the public shaming. He slammed his cutlery onto the table, shot up from his seat, and stormed out of the dining hall without uttering another word.

Witnessing the scene, Amanda immediately rose to her feet. “Luke!” she called out, preparing to follow him.

Xavier’s voice cut through the tension like a whip. “No one is permitted to follow him today. Anyone who dares will no longer be welcome in this household.”

Amanda froze mid-step, one foot already toward the doorway, before reluctantly withdrawing.

As the family elder, Xavier commanded respect, particularly since Richard himself held his father in high

esteem.

Seeing Amanda stand down, Xavier continued, his voice heavy with disapproval. “The fundamental issue is that he’s been thoroughly spoiled. Everyone has been treating him like a crown prince.”

Scarlett remained quietly seated, neither touching her food nor contributing to the conversation.

Both Vincent and Lucy maintained an equally stony silence.

Richard attempted to diffuse the situation. “Father, please don’t allow a youngster’s behavior to upset you. Today is your birthday celebration. Let us simply enjoy our meal.”

Xavier drew a deep, steadying breath, visibly attempting to cast aside his foul mood. His gaze softened as it fell upon Scarlett. “Scarlett, you must eat properly. Have some more food.”

Scarlett looked up at him, her expression brightening with a gentle smile. “Thank you for your concern, Grandpa.”

After Luke’s dramatic departure, the family gradually resumed their meal.

This time, however, complete silence prevailed. Everyone picked quietly at their food, the atmosphere becoming palpably strained and uncomfortable.

Scarlett could feel Amanda’s gaze periodically burning into her, as if the woman wished to communicate something-perhaps a silent warning for her to remain cautious.

But Scarlett found she no longer cared about Amanda’s opinions. She deliberately ignored Amanda, refusing to even glance in her direction.

When they finished the birthday cake, Xavier carefully wiped his mouth and turned his attention to Scarlett and Vincent. “Scarlett, Vincent, the two of you should reinain here tonight. I’ve already instructed the staff to prepare the upstairs rooms for you.”

Scarlett was on the verge of declining when Vincent preempted her. “Grandpa, you should consult Scarlett directly. Let her make the decision.”

Strangely, the refusal she had been about to voice transformed after Vincent’s intervention. “If Grandpa wishes us to stay, then we shall stay,” she found herself saying.

She lifted her eyes to Vincent as she spoke, a faint, enigmatic smile touching her lips, something mysterious and unreadable flickering in their depths.

Vincent met her gaze, recognizing her deliberate response, yet instead of taking offense, he mirrored her slight smile. “As you wish.”

His lack of refusal and seemingly accommodating attitude visibly pleased Xavier.

“Excellent, then it’s settled. I’m growing tired, so I shall retire for the evening now.”

With that, Xavier took up his cane and pushed himself to his feet.

Richard also stood. “Father, allow me to escort you to your quarters.”

But Xavier waved him off dismissively. “That won’t be necessary. Scarlett can assist me.”

He turned to Scarlett. “Scarlett, come help me.”

Scarlett promptly rose and carefully supported Xavier as they left the dining room.

Upon reaching Xavier’s private chambers, Scarlett helped him settle comfortably into his chair.

Just as she prepared to take her leave, Xavier suddenly posed a quiet question. “Scarlett, speak to me truthfully now. Has Vincent been treating you poorly?”

Xavier’s genuine concern for her wellbeing touched Scarlett deeply.

Yet some matters simply weren’t worth creating further drama over. Particularly now, having already resolved to divorce Vincent, the question of his treatment felt increasingly irrelevant.

Thus, Scarlett assured Xavier, “Grandpa, Vincent has not done me any harm.”

Xavier was clearly not convinced. “Come now, Scarlett, don’t attempt to deceive me. I’ve lived long enough to recognize these things.”

Regardless of how Xavier pressed, Scarlett held firm to her statement. “Grandpa, Vincent treats me quite adequately. He truly hasn’t mistreated me.”

Xavier couldn’t discern how much truth her words held, but his heart ached sincerely for Scarlett.
