Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife novel Chapter 1733

Chapter 1733: Chapter 1734: Brought Upon Herself

The last time I saw Auntie was in March, at Deng Weiqiu’s wedding banquet. That day, Auntie was dressed in red, her face sharp but spirited, her hair neatly combed, and in good health.

But now, just two or three months later, this old lady who had always valued reputation and rules is lying half-dead on the white hospital bed, her hair gray, her complexion ashen, her lips cracked. She couldn’t speak, only opening her mouth to make ah sounds, tears streaming down, looking very pitiful.

It was heart-wrenching to look at.

Cheng Su looked away and walked to the window of the ward, looking out. The trees outside were lush, and listening to the faint sound of crying behind her, she felt a deep sense of emotion.

Did Auntie consider, when she venomously cursed her daughter-in-law as a chicken during their argument yesterday, that in the blink of an eye, she wouldn’t even be able to speak, let alone curse at someone?

Life is unpredictable. The unknown is called unknown precisely because you never know what will happen in the next second.

Compared to quarreling, wearing out her daughter-in-law, and being unable to even call out the names of her grandchildren or move at all, were the rules or rights and wrongs she clung to still that important?

Compared to health, none of it seems as important!

Unfortunately, even if she understood this truth, it couldn’t bring anything back.

With a heavy heart, Cheng Su returned home, sat wearily on the sofa, and massaged her temples.

Mother Cheng didn’t say anything. Although it wasn’t a nice thought, what Cheng Su said was true. But still, after all, she was human, so she said, "Though that might be true, who would actually let her die willingly? Or just let her go like that? As they say, it’s better to live on in hardship than to die well."

Cheng Su chuckled, "For wealthy people, maybe that’s the case. Even Deng Weixia and the others might think that way. But watch, one month, two months—they might be glad she’s alive. But after a long illness, there’s no filial child by the bedside."

Mother Cheng understood perfectly and, stroking Xiao Qi’s head, said, "That’s why she shouldn’t have argued with her daughter-in-law. All that anger for nothing, and now she’s paid the price for it all. Now, she must be full of regret, but what’s done is done."

Cheng Su yawned, "What good does regret do? She brought it upon herself. When she had a stroke back then, she should have cherished her own life. She had no right to lose her temper. But saying this makes me sound unsympathetic; so, enough of that. I’ll wash my face. I’m exhausted."

Mother Cheng said nothing, thinking to herself, people really change with age. When you get to that stage, you have to learn to let go and stop arguing with young people. You’ll never win those battles.
