At noon during mealtime, Qi Taiguo held Qi Xiaoqi and took Cheng Su by the hand to find a restaurant by the seaside. Sitting down, the view outside was of the ocean, with the sea breeze blowing in. Though it carried a salty tang, it was still a feast for the eyes.
"Don’t you love eating seafood? This place is known as the City by the Seaside; there’s plenty of seafood that’s especially fresh and sweet. Let’s order a bit more today," Qi Taiguo said to Cheng Su.
Cheng Su nodded with a smile, took a sip of tea, and said, "Then you hold our son, and I’ll go order?"
"Alright!"
"What do you want to eat?" Cheng Su stood up.
"Just order what you like; I eat seafood almost every day and I’m not picky," Qi Taiguo said, holding Qi Xiaoqi.
Cheng Su went to find the owner and saw various seafood kept in large basins, all plump and fresh. Unable to resist, she ordered several types, a vegetable dish, a steamed egg for their son, and half a steamed chicken, which was more than enough.
Returning to the seating area, she saw Qi Taiguo playing with Qi Xiaoqi, tossing him up and down, the child’s giggles carrying far away. She couldn’t help but smile.
She, unlike others, wasn’t worried her son would fall. She trusted Qi Taiguo, but seeing that it was hot, she said, "Don’t play too wildly, you’ll end up drenched in sweat. Drink some water!"
"Oh, your mom says no more playing." Qi Taiguo put their son on his shoulder, walked over, sat down, and placed Qi Xiaoqi on the seat between them.
Cheng Su handed the feeding bottle to their son.
"You just said you eat seafood almost every day? Is the army’s food supply that good?" Cheng Su asked him.
Qi Taiguo poured each of them a cup of tea, saying, "The island is full of fishermen. They go out to sea daily, and the catch is sold and delivered to this city. Our canteen needs meat dishes, so they’re always delivering fish and stuff. Of course, during the fishing off-season, we don’t get as much. During peak season, we have it almost every meal."
