Chapter 260 Rivalry

Layla rubbed her chin thoughtfully, meeting their gazes with earnest sincerity. “I figured out it was Carson from the live stream comments. But I couldn’t just stand by and let a person get mauled to death/no matter who he is.”

Her reasonable reply left Liam lost for words.

A thick cloud of jealousy hung heavy in the tree hollow.

Watching Liam and George’s displeasure and Layla’s helplessness, Shane stepped forward to ease the tension.

He turned to Layla softly. “Your heart is your own to follow. If you do grow to care for Carson, I won’t hold it against you. He is an outstanding male by any standard.”

George’s eyes widened in shock. “Shane, you’re betraying us!”

“This isn’t betrayal. I only want Layla to be happy,” Shane replied calmly.

Liam fell silent after hearing his words.

Without Shane’s unwavering support from the very start, none of them would have stayed by Layla’s side at

all.

He let out a long sigh, relenting slightly as he spoke to Layla. “If you do develop feelings for him, tell us upfront.”

Layla’s heart ached at Shane’s wronged yet selfless expression.

She pulled him straight into her own bed, wrapping her arms around him as they lay down together.

Pressing a light kiss to his forehead, she spoke firmly for all to hear, You have nothing to worry about. You’ll always be the one I love the most.”

Her unreserved confession left Liam and George staring wide-eyed, grinding their teeth in frustration with no way to argue back.

After all, Shane had been the first to choose Layla wholeheartedly, and it was only natural that she cherished him the most.

Exchanging a meaningful glance, George lowered his voice to Liam. “We need to step up our game. We can’t stay stuck in second place forever.”

Liam nodded gravely in agreement. “You’re right. We need to carve out a permanent place in her heart.”

While they were confident that Layla had feelings for them, Liam and George couldn’t shake the feeling that a significant gulf still existed between them and Shane.

Even if they couldn’t claim the top spot in her heart, there was no way they could allow themselves to lose out to Carson.

Far Carson before, it was painfully obvious she had a thing for his specific build.

Liam and George glanced down at their own physiques.

Sure, their muscles were well-defined, but compared to Carson’s impressive bulk, they knew they fell short.

A silent pact formed between the two men: they would train until they were every bit as big as Carson.

The tree hollow settled back into silence, and Layla soon drifted off to sleep, still holding Shane close.

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the entrance, bathing everyone’s faces in its warm glow.
