Chapter 329 A Metal Fragment
Layla watched George and Oliver grudgingly start moving the Thunder Pterosaur and couldn’t hold back a laugh.
Some unwilling team bonding never killed anyone.
With the Thunder Pterosaur dealt with, Layla turned to look at the massive nest and frowned. She couldn’t handle that thing alone.
“Layla, go find Prof. Slater. We’ll keep watch here,” Carson said, noticing her hesitation.
He’d already been injured before, and now, after fighting the Thunder Pterosaur, he was completely drained.
Layla looked at him, guilt flickering in her eyes.
Carson knew exactly what she was thinking. His voice softened. “I’m fine. This is nothing compared to what I’ve been through before. I heal fast. Don’t worry.”
There wasn’t much else she could do right now. Layla waved to Carson and Liam, shifted back to her beast form, and flew toward the Starcore Ore mine.
She landed, shifted back to human, and ran to where Shane was. She was out of breath, but the moment she saw him safe, relief washed over her.
Shane was the weakest fighter among them. No one else seemed to have discovered this Starcore Ore mine, but there were no guarantees.
Shane was staring intently at the Starcore Ore in his hands, excitement lighting up his eyes. He heard footsteps and turned around.
“Layla, the purity of the ore here is exceptionally high,” he said. “And the deposit is way larger than we estimated.”
She could hear the genuine joy in his voice. Layla’s expression softened, and she smiled, “The Thunder Pterosaur’s been taken care of too.”
Shane stood up and asked, “Are Carson and the others okay?”
“Nothing serious, but they got banged up a bit,” Layla said. She wasn’t going to hide it from him.
Shane nodded thoughtfully, his gaze sweeping across the mine.
Layla could tell something was up. “What is it?” she asked.
“I’ve been looking around. This mine was dug out by humans. The Wormhole Queen’s people didn’t make this,” he said.
Surprise flickered in Layla’s eyes, then understanding. The Wormhole Queen had told them about humans driving them out before the Thunder Pterosaur ever showed up.
“It’s probably from the same group that drove out the Wormhole Queen,” Layla said.
