Chapter 346 I’d Rather Be an Orphan
Ciara’s expression eased a little, and she forced a smile at Carson. “I’m here to see Layla. She is my daughter, after all. It’s been a long time. I just want to talk to her.”
Carson shook his head. “Layla didn’t sleep well last night. Whatever you need to say, tell me. I’ll pass it along.”
It was clear Carson was going to shield Layla no matter what. Ciara’s gaze went ice-cold. “Mr. Fields, this has nothing to do with you. Step aside. I’m going to see Layla.”
As Ciara tried to walk past him, Carson shifted just enough to block her path. His tall, broad frame loomed there like a wall, and the sheer intensity of his presence made Ciara hesitate.
The bodyguards behind her stepped forward immediately, eyeing Carson like they were ready to move.
Carson’s voice stayed flat, but the warning underneath was unmistakable. “I already told you. Whatever it is, say it to me. Don’t bother Layla.”
Ciara’s teeth ground together. “Are you determined to make an enemy of me today, Mr. Fields?” she asked.
Carson’s cold voice cut in, “You’re the one insisting on bothering Layla. I’m not the one picking this fight.”
Ciara almost let out a furious laugh at his words.
She lifted her hand, and her bodyguards surged forward.
The tension snapped tight, and the viewers ate it up.
[No way. Ciara’s actually gonna throw down with Mr. Fields? She must really love Stella. Who else would be crazy enough to pull this?]
[It’s honestly pathetic. She ignores her real daughter and pours everything into that scheming, vicious fake.]
[They’re probably cut from the same cloth. If she ever cut Stella loose, Stella would spill all the family dirt in a heartbeat.]
Layla watched the comments scroll by. She knew exactly what was happening. Ciara was not leaving without seeing her, no matter what.
She lowered her eyes and turned to Liam. “I have to go out there. Carson can’t settle this on his own.”
Liam nodded. “Then go. We’ve got your back.”
A smile full of quiet confidence crossed Layla’s face. “They can’t touch me.”
She pushed the door open and walked out.
The second Ciara saw Layla, disgust flickered across her face. “So this is how you were raised? Your mother shows up, and you can’t even be bothered to come greet her?” she said, her voice dripping with contempt.
