Chapter 355 Decoys
A knowing look dawned on Liam’s face as Layla spoke.
So that’s her game. Now it makes perfect sense why she didn’t bother hiding her actions from Vanguard earlier.
Back at the cabin, Shane shut the door firmly behind him, the quiet click sealing him in with his task. He began testing the strands of Leonard’s hair for traces of the illicit berserker rage serum.
An uneasy silence settled over the group waiting outside, thick with anticipation.
It stretched on for what felt like an age before the door finally swung open again.
Shane emerged, a test tube held carefully in his hand.
His grim expression confirmed their worst fears even before he spoke.
Layla stepped closer, her voice low. “It’s the serum, isn’t it?”
A slight nod. “Confirmed. And it’s a heavy dosage. They’ve been administering it for a long time.”
Her eyes narrowed thoughtfully. Shane produced a small box, revealing a vial of shimmering violet-pink liquid inside.
“I synthesized a replica based on the analysis. If we can get our hands on their actual supply, we’ll have concrete evidence,” he explained.
“But how can you be sure they have a stockpile on hand?” Layla questioned.
“They’d need regular injections. Without them, the subject would degenerate into a feral state,” Shane stated.
A plan began to crystallize in Layla’s mind. “Their new mud hut isn’t finished yet. All their belongings are probably stored together, so security will be looser. We should find a way inside.”
The suggestion was met with nods from the others-all except George, whose face was lined with worry.
“Creating a diversion won’t be easy. They’re already on high alert after everything that’s happened.”
A faint, calculated smile touched Layla’s lips.
“You’re forgetting. We still have two guests locked up,” she said, her gaze shifting meaningfully.
All eyes followed hers to the makeshift holding room.
Of course-the two Interstellar pirates were still here.
Carson caught on, hesitating. “You want to use them as decoys?”
Layla nodded. “Exactly.”
Carson pressed, his concern evident, “But what if they slip from our control?
“They’re frot exactly choir boys. If they get away and alert their crew, we’ll have endless trouble on our hands.”
Layla offered a reassuring look. “Back on Planet A13’s badlands, I found a particular herb. Its effects take about four hours to manifest, causing severe muscle weakness and cardiac distress Even if they do run, they won’t get far or cause any real damage before they’re incapacitated.”
Hearing she had a contingency plan eased Carson’s tension.
