A glint appeared in Bai Rongrong’s eyes. She knew Bai Su ran the restaurant on the summit and figured she must have a keen interest in gourmet food.
She confidently strode toward the pair in their secluded corner and blocked Bai Su’s path. "Sister."
Bai Su jumped in surprise, her drooping rabbit ears shooting straight up.
Lu Tingyan patted her reassuringly, then glared at the person before them. "Who are you?"
Bai Rongrong broke into a sweet smile and chirped, "Hello, brother-in-law!"
Lu Tingyan’s expression softened slightly.
Bai Su gave the young woman a strange look. "You’re... from the Bai family?"
Bai Rongrong smiled and nodded. "That’s right! I’ve been wanting to meet you for so long, Sister, but I never had the chance. I’m so glad I finally can today!"
"I heard you opened a restaurant up on the summit, Sister? It must be very popular. I’m so jealous that you get to interact with so many commoners every day. Could I come and try it sometime?"
Bai Su sized her up.
’I’ve been in business for years. If I couldn’t even read people this well, I never would have been able to build my own restaurant empire.’
Bai Su offered a distant smile. "If you’d wanted to meet me for so long, the restaurant is open every day. You could have come at any time."
Hearing this, Bai Rongrong’s smile faltered for a moment. "I really did want to come, but I haven’t graduated yet, you know? Schoolwork has been so busy, I just couldn’t get away. But it’s winter break now, so I’ll come by the restaurant to see you in a few days, Sister!"
’Bai Su isn’t like the other females I’ve met,’ she realized. ’The women of the Federation love to beat around the bush; no one shows their feelings so openly.’
’As far as I’m concerned, Bai Su is just a simple-minded fool who says whatever she’s thinking and can’t hide her emotions.’
’Maybe men go through a phase of liking the more fiery types?’
Bai Rongrong composed herself, putting on an even more gentle and graceful expression. She smiled at Lu Tingyan as if they were old acquaintances. "Besides, I was afraid of interrupting your private time with my sister."
Lu Tingyan inclined his head slightly. "You are. So come around less."
He paused, then added, "On second thought, don’t come at all."
The smile on Bai Rongrong’s face froze solid. "..."
’This isn’t going how I imagined it at all.’
But she quickly recovered, winking at Lu Tingyan with a mischievous smile. "You and Sister are just as close as the rumors say. It makes me so envious..."
