In the restaurant’s main hall, Bai Su picked up her daughter and gave her a kiss. Turning to the crowd of onlookers, she said with a wide smile, "We have a happy occasion in the family today. Everything’s on the house!"
After a moment of silence, the entire hall erupted in deafening cheers!
"Long live the boss!!"
"Congratulations!"
"The boss is so generous!"
"In that case, I’m ordering two more dishes! I’m not full yet!"
Bai Su carried the little one to the kitchen, so happy her bunny ears flushed pink. "Where did you come from? Have you had a hard time these past few years? I see you’ve gotten tanner, and thinner too. Haven’t you been eating enough?"
"Are you hungry? I’ll make you something delicious. What do you want to eat?"
"Or should we go home first?"
Wen Dabao shook her head. "Are you free right now?"
Bai Su blinked. "I am."
Wen Dabao said, "Come on, log on."
Bai Su: "...Huh?"
Wen Dabao: "Our ranks are different, so we can’t play ranked together. I’ll get on my sister’s smurf account."
Bai Su sensed something was off. "Sister? What sister?"
Wen Dabao fell strangely silent for a moment. The excited light in her eyes gradually faded as her senses returned.
Belatedly, she looked through the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows toward the general store across the street, keenly sensing the towering rage and murderous aura directed at her.
’I’m screwed...’
Wen Dabao turned her head and looked stubbornly at Bai Su. "If I said I just popped out from a crack in a rock to find you, would you believe me?"
Bai Su shook her head.
Yan Qingya, standing nearby, kindly reminded her, "I saw you come from the general store across the street."
Wen Dabao: "..."
Yan Qingya added, "The whole dining hall saw you."
The crowd of onlookers nodded in cute, perfect unison.
Wen Dabao: "..."
The gears in her mind were turning at high speed as she tried to figure out how to smooth things over...
"Sister? What are you doing here?"
At the restaurant entrance, Wen Xiaobao, with a small backpack on, tilted her head and looked at her in confusion. Her big, fluttering eyes were bright and exceptionally cute.
Behind her, her three brothers stood guard like little knights.
Wen Dabao: "..."
’I’m totally screwed!’
*
On the third floor of the restaurant.
In the private room were only the five little ones, Bai Su, and Wen Lan.
The small dining table was laden with freshly made dishes: a steaming-hot dual-sided hot pot and crawfish in three different flavors.
The food on the table looked lively, but the atmosphere was so cold it could have frozen over.
Wen Dabao was furiously stuffing her face while clutching her swollen little bottom, but she didn’t forget to share a bite with her sister. Her three brothers quietly observed the situation from the side.
Bai Su glanced at Wen Lan’s grim expression across from her. A sense of helplessness washed over her.
"So, you’ve been living across the street with the children this whole time, with no intention of acknowledging us?"
Wen Lan emphasized distantly, "My children."
Bai Su recalled the few times she had seen Wen Lan with the children. He always had the fiercely protective look of a father defending his young. She guessed he was probably afraid she would try to take the children from him.
She could understand the mentality of a single father.
