Her legs were shaking.
There was not a trace of colour on her face.
Kai was about to say something when he straightened up. ‘Boss.”
Kira followed his line of sight mechanically and saw Austyn striding toward them.
His face was granite.
She trembled..
Austyn brushed past her, not sparing her a glance.
Kira’s mouth was half–open, but no sound came out.
Austyn got into the backseat of the Hummer, slamming the door shut.
“Kai! What are you waiting for?
‘Yes, Boss.‘ Kai opened the rear left car door. ‘Young Madam, please get in. We’re leaving now.”
Kira climbed into the car, grimacing in pain.
Kai got behind the wheel and started the car.
For a while, the hum of the engine was the only sound in the car.
Kira’s eyelids grew heavy.
She started seeing black dots in front of her eyes.
Her body temperature dropped.
Her hands were shaking.
With some effort, she turned her head to look at Austyn.
His face was shrouded in darkness, his thin lips pursed tightly.
He refused to look at her.
When Kira detected the rustic smell in the air, she shifted her gaze and saw blood dripping from his fingers.
‘You’re bleeding!‘
She reached out to touch his hand.
‘Don’t touch me!!
Austyn shoved her away so hard that she was flung to the other side of the seat.
Her head banged against the window.
Kira’s vision went black for a few seconds.
She took several deep breaths and tried to blink the darkness out of her eyes.
Holding on to the grab handle, she pulled herself up, her head swimming-
When she sat up, the look in Austyn’s eyes impaled her.
Kira shrank back in her seat, keeping as much distance between them as possible.
If he didn’t want her to touch him, she wouldn’t.
“You’re bleeding. You should get a doct-
‘Shut up!‘ Austyn bellowed.
The veins on his forehead throbbed.
His hand was clenched into a fist, which made the blood flow even faster.
Kira flinched.
She was scared by this side of Austyn.
Kira fell silent.
She dug her nails into her palms to keep herself awake, fighting the wave of dizziness.
Her hands were still shaking.
She forced herself to look away from his hand.
Outside the window, trees and neon lights and shop signs blended into each other, forming a blurry landscape painting.
‘Boss!‘ Kai glanced at the rearview mirror. ‘Something’s wrong with Young Madam.”
Austyn turned his head.
Kira’s slumped body was slowly sliding off the seat.
‘Kira!’ He shot out an arm to catch her.
“There’s…there’s nothing going on between me and…and Liam.‘
Then she passed out.
Kira saw a white ceiling when she came to.
Then she smelled the overwhelming, distinctive stink of disinfectant.
She tried to sit up but fell back down when a pain shot through her right shoulder.
