‘Really?‘ Kira wasn’t convinced. 

It wasn’t because he’d enshrined the memory of Deborah in his heart and to hear anyone else mention her name was sacrilege? 

Elsie nodded. “Young Master took it pretty hard when the affair between Miss Connelly and Liam came to light. He was already engaged to Miss Connelly. Not only did she cheat on him, she did it with his brother, a man she knew full well Young Master detested. It was such a thorough, wicked act of betrayal.‘ 

She looked at Kira. ‘If you were Young Master, would you want to ever hear their names again? 

Kira pondered the question and decided that Elsie was right. 

“It’s a pity, though. Elsie smiled wistfully. ‘If Young Master had gotten married back then, there could’ve been Junior Masters running around the house now. Miss Connelly was pretty. Young Master is handsome. I bet their kids would look like little cherubs ” 

Seeing the look on Kira’s face, Elsie cleared her throat and immediately changed the topic. But that’s all in the past. Anyway, there’s nothing for you to be worried about. You’re the winner. 

Kira blinked. “What do you mean?” 

“You’re Mrs McCarthy, not Deboral. You’re alive; Deborali passed away. You share a bed with Young Master; Deborah did not. So, you win.” 

“It’s not a contest,’ Kira wanted to say. 

But she held back. 

Instead, she asked, ‘Elsie, why are you siding with me? Didn’t you like Deborah?”

Gideon left the restroom and almost bumped into a man coming out of a private room. 

He smiled when he recognised who it was. 

“Small world. I didn’t expect to run into you here, Liam.” 

Liam shared the sentiment. ‘I didn’t know you’re in Stamford.” 

He glanced over Gideon’s shoulders. ‘You’re here alone?” 

“No, but I am free at the moment.” 

Liam tilted his head towards the private room. ‘How about lunch?‘ 

‘Sure.‘ 

After Liam was driven out of Stamford by Austyn, he had used any and all means necessary to survive and then to claw. his way to the top. 

In the process, he’d made his fair share of enemies. 

Chief among them were members of the Garner family. 

After Gideon took over control of the family, he looked for Liam, but the man managed to give him the slip every time. Meeting

Then he asked, ‘Are you here for a short visit or a long stay?‘ 

*Are you worried that I’ll be a threat to you?” Gideon leaned back in his chair, tapping a finger on the tablecloth. 

Charles stood behind Liam, unobtrusive but attentive. 

“Not really. Liam flashed a smile at his guest, unconcerned. “This is Stamford, not Ourhlana. Before you make a move on me, you should think about the consequences.‘ 

Gideon curled his lip. “You speak as if you own Stamford City.” 

“I don’t, but the man who does happens to share DNA with me.‘ Liam smirked. ‘Besides, I grew up here and am familiar with the local terrain. If there’s anything you need, I’m more than happy to offer my services.‘ 

Liam paused when the waiter came in with their order. “Think about it.‘ 

Gideon would not come to Stamford for no reason. 

There must be something he wanted.

Besides, if Gideon took him up on the offer, he’d have to forget about settling old scores and leave him alone, at least for the time bring

He knew what the man was planning, but he had to agree that Liam had a point.

A quiet knock came on the door before it was pushed open. 

Martin entered. 

He gave a curt nod to Liam before bending down next to Gideon, whispering in his ear. ‘Young Master, I have reached out to Miss Hewitt’s friend.” 

‘Did you stick to the script?” 

‘Yes, I told Miss Mills that I’m Miss Hewitt’s old acquaintance from Milton. I wanted to track down Miss Hewitt but couldn’t find her in Stamford. So I asked Miss Mills to arrange a meeting for us.” 

‘And? 

‘Miss Mills was sceptical. She refused to contact Miss Hewitt for me. Nor did she agree to meet me herself.” 

“You’re a stranger to her,‘ Gideon said. ‘It’s only natural for her to be wary.‘ 

After a pause, he said, ‘Call Miss Mills again. Make up an excuse. Or offer her money. Make sure she agrees to a meet.‘ “Yes, Young Master.‘ 

Martin was about to leave the room when Liam spoke up. “Wait.‘

Martin stopped and turned back. ‘Mr Cane, do you have something to say?”

Martin was reluctant to answer, but Gideon didn’t seem to object.

Liam cocked an eyebrow. 

His smile broadened into a grin.

“This Miss Hewitt wouldn’t happen to be studying at Stamford University, would she?‘ Liam said. ‘And she comes from a small town in the southwest. Am I right?” 

Both Gideon and Martin were staring at him. 

‘How do you know all this?‘ 

‘Oh, I know more than just her school and her hometown.‘ Liam smirked. ‘I know her full name is Kira Hewitt, for example. 

Gideon shot out of his chair. ‘You know her?‘ 

“Uh–huh.”

“Where is she now?” 

Liam pointed to Gideon’s chair. ‘Relax. Take a seat.” 

Gideon knew the man was just playing games, but Liam had the upper hand now, so Gideon sat down. 

“There is some bad blood between me and the Garner family,‘ Liam said. ‘But you and I have no beef. I will tell you what you want to know, but I’ll need something from you in return.”

“In exchange for Kira’s information, you’ll forget about everything that happened between me and your family. Let bygones be bygones. What do you say?
