Jarred pressed his lips together, his sharp jawline looking even more formidable in the dark.

"I understand."

He spoke the words in a low, gravelly tone, about to hang up.

Suddenly, a stunningly delicate face flashed in his mind.

Sienna had heard him answer the phone earlier.

Jarred's grip on the steering wheel involuntarily tightened, his gaze darkening. "Before I get there, don't let anyone get close enough to trigger her."

Declan immediately agreed. "Yes, sir."

Jarred ended the call and slammed the gas pedal to the floor.

When the door to the women's holding cell was pushed open, the room was a complete disaster zone.

The bedding from the simple cot had been torn onto the floor, with water cups, pillows, and various medical supplies scattered everywhere.

Two nurses stood awkwardly by the door, completely at a loss, caught between staying and fleeing.

Their eyes were filled with helplessness and fear; neither dared to step forward.

Their gazes were locked on the darkest corner of the room.

A disheveled Celeste was curled up in the corner furthest from the door.

Her long hair wildly obscured most of her face as she dragged her injured leg.

She looked as though she were trying to press herself directly into the concrete wall.

"Ms. Carlyle, we just want to give you your medication..."

One nurse tried to step forward, but the moment her foot landed, a piercing scream erupted from the corner.

"Don't come near me! Don't touch me!"

Celeste jerked her head up, revealing bloodshot eyes swimming with terror.

"I... I won't take it! I won't!"

She screamed while frantically shrinking backward.

The two nurses exchanged glances, completely baffled by her behavior.
