Jarred walked over to the hospital bed, looking down from his imposing height at the tear-stained face before him.
His voice was so cold it lacked any trace of warmth.
"If you have a death wish, I won't stop you."
Those casual, feather-light words instantly shattered all of Daisy's fantasies.
Her body stiffened, a freezing chill spreading uncontrollably from the depths of her heart.
The man's expression remained polished and aristocratic, seemingly unbothered.
But she could clearly catch the suppressed fury and icy detachment hidden in his gaze.
Only in this moment did she belatedly realize the truth.
Even though she was covered in injuries and completely pathetic, and even though he had personally carried her to the emergency room and arranged for her recovery.
The scales in his heart had always been firmly tipped in Sienna's favor.
He wasn't blaming Sienna for making a mountain out of a molehill.
He was blaming Daisy for being reckless enough to repeatedly provoke the woman who held his heart.
Daisy's throat tightened. She wanted to argue, to salvage the situation and ease the suffocating tension.
But Jarred had already looked away. His tone was distant and devoid of emotion.
"I have business to attend to. I'm leaving. If you need anything, just tell the staff to handle it."
With that, he didn't even wait for her response. His tall figure turned and strode out the door.
The hospital room plunged into a dead silence. The ecstatic joy from moments ago vanished, leaving only intense frustration and bitter disappointment.
Daisy sat blankly on the bed, her fingers clutching the sheets in a death grip.
She had thought he rushed her to the ER because he cared for her.
She had thought he told her to stay and recover because he couldn't bear to see her leave.
But his parting words felt like a bucket of ice water...
Daisy lowered her head, her eyes turning red again.
This time, the redness was real. She wasn't acting.
Right then, the door to the room was gently pushed open.
