Walking out of the building, Sienna stood at the top of the steps.
The sunlight above was blinding. She stared at the booklet in her hands, and as her vision cleared, she felt an overwhelming sense of unreality.
From yesterday to today, only a few dozen hours had passed.
This was the exact outcome she had engineered, yet she hadn't expected it to happen so quickly and effortlessly.
It all felt like a dream.
The man's distant voice suddenly rang out beside her. "Do you want to grab a farewell meal?"
Sienna turned her head.
Jarred was standing just a step away from her.
His profile was sharply illuminated by the sun, his demeanor aristocratic and cold, radiating an untouchable distance.
"No need," Sienna glanced at him. "You should hurry up and cooperate with your investigation."
Jarred stared at her quietly, his dark eyes clouded with an impenetrable mist.
After a long pause, his lips slowly curled up into a faint smile. "Darling, that was a very bold move.
You dared to use me as a pawn on your chessboard, playing me for a fool from start to finish."
Sienna finally turned to look at him, her eyes completely calm. "You flatter me, Captain Sterling. It was merely a fair match where we both got what we wanted.
I wanted my freedom, and you wanted to protect your power. Every game has a winner and a loser. I won, that's all."
"Winner and loser?" Jarred chuckled low, the sound devoid of warmth, leaving only a lurking obsession.
"Darling, the final piece hasn't been played. Did you really think this was the end?"
His gaze was so intense and scorching that it felt like it could swallow her whole.
Sienna felt a slight chill in her heart, but she kept her expression perfectly composed.
She understood Jarred far too well.
He was ruthless, decisive, and his need for control was carved deep into his bones.
Now that she had personally schemed her way into a divorce, his nature dictated that he would inevitably seek revenge.
But she understood human nature better, and she understood his limits and weaknesses.
