"Sienna! Have you absolutely no shame?"
Helena's face was livid, carrying undisguised humiliation. "You and Jarred have already signed the divorce papers and made a clean break!
Yet here you are, haunting us all the way here, clinging to my son. Just how long do you plan on harassing him?"
The surrounding area instantly quieted down, and countless nosy stares locked onto Sienna.
"Helena, instead of running your mouth about others, why don't you talk about yourself?"
Sienna raised an eyebrow slightly, a faint trace of amusement in her eyes. "When people tried to advise you to distinguish right from wrong and see people's true colors, you refused to listen to a single word.
Someone just has to play the victim and say a few sweet words, and you willingly let them manipulate you. You'd happily count the money for them after they've sold you out."
"What are you trying to say?" Helena roared.
Sienna chuckled. "I'm saying you ignore good advice, but you'll sprint off a cliff if the devil leads the way."
"You!" Helena's face instantly flushed a furious purplish-red.
Celeste pushed her wheelchair forward at the perfect moment, the wheels rolling over the trailing edge of Sienna's dress and leaving a dusty gray streak behind.
"Helena, please don't be angry. It's Ms. Sloan's first time at such an exclusive academic summit. She doesn't know the rules."
She looked up at Sienna, the superiority in her eyes practically overflowing. Her smile was shallow, but the malice ran deep.
"Ms. Sloan, don't worry. It's a grand event today with incredible case studies. Take this opportunity to broaden your horizons, watch, and learn.
After all, this kind of top-tier, cross-departmental seminar on complex medical cases is an opportunity ordinary people would never encounter in a lifetime of work. It's hard to come by."
The words sounded considerate, but every syllable was a calculated strike.
She was blatantly telling everyone: Sienna's status was too low, her experience too shallow, and she had no real talent to speak of. She had zero right to stand at this prestigious event.
Her presence here was purely thanks to clinging to her past marriage with Jarred.
A few guests nearby let out compliant snickers.
Celeste was the newly crowned rising star of the industry; naturally, they took her side.
