Celeste Carlyle didn't even care about crying anymore.
Once she left the country, she would lose Helena Sterling and the matriarch's bottomless protection, completely exiled from their elite circle.
Every calculated move she had plotted for years would vanish into thin air, leaving her without a single chance to turn things around.
At that thought, she immediately discarded all her pride and dignity.
Sobbing until she was physically drained, she lowered herself to the absolute dust to beg.
"Jarred, I know I was wrong. I've completely woken up to reality, and I promise I'll never touch anything related to medicine again.
I won't chase vain titles or cause any more high-profile trouble.
With my legs like this, I'll be terrified going to an unfamiliar country all alone, so please, I'm begging you, don't send me away by myself.
From now on, I'll stay quietly by Helena and Grandma's side, staying indoors and living a peaceful life.
I won't cause a single ounce of trouble, and I will never put you in a difficult position again."
She spoke slowly, every word sounding as if she were tearing her heart out.
By the end, tears completely blurred her face.
Celeste lowered her head, resting her forehead against the fleece blanket on her lap.
Sitting in the wheelchair, she looked so small, so fragile, like she could be blown away by a gust of wind.
Helena wrapped an arm around her shoulders, her eyes completely red. "Jarred, did you hear her? She's already agreed!
What more do you want? Will you only be satisfied when you've driven her to her death?"
Jarred Sterling didn't answer.
He stood exactly where he was, staring at Celeste in the wheelchair.
She kept her head down, her shoulders trembling, her entire face buried in the blanket with only the back of her quivering head facing him.
He stared for a long time, so long that Helena thought he was going to refuse.
So long that the tense silence in the air stretched like a string about to snap.
Right at that explosive moment, the cabin door was suddenly pushed open.
Declan Ward looked frantic, completely ignoring the heavy atmosphere inside as he barged in with rapid breaths and a deathly pale face.
