Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 529

Sensing her gaze, Jarred's deep eyes locked onto her with precision just a second before he pulled the car door open.

The cold, frosty edge to his features melted away at a visible speed.

The ice in his eyes faded, replaced by a tenderness reserved solely for her.

He walked boldly toward her, completely unbothered by the crowd.

Seeing this, Helena screamed at the top of her lungs, "Jarred! Stop right there! What is there to say to her? She ruined our family, she ruined Celeste, ignore her!"

Jarred paid no mind to his mother's furious shrieks, ignoring the stares of everyone around them.

His footsteps didn't falter for a second.

In just a few strides, he stood right in front of Sienna.

The brisk morning breeze swept between them, carrying an unspoken wave of emotion.

Jarred looked down at the aloof woman before him, taking in how her slender shoulders trembled slightly in the chill, a sea of affection swelling in his gaze.

The corners of his mouth turned up in a helpless, indulgent smile, his voice almost too soft. "You heartless woman, leaving me behind like that. It's so cold, didn't you know to wear an extra coat?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, he took off his suit jacket and moved to drape it over her shoulders.

This display of care only looked like biting sarcasm and pure disgust to Sienna.

She swallowed her revulsion and violently slapped his hand away.

Her eyes were coated in ice, her tone merciless. "Jarred! Did a dog eat your conscience?

For a manipulative, pathetic pretender like Celeste, you're willing to throw away the principles you've held onto for years, not to mention the reputation you care so much about?

Are you doing justice to your responsibilities, to yourself, or to anyone else?"

Faced with her nearly hysterical interrogation, Jarred didn't show a hint of anger.

The faint smile remained on his lips as he asked softly, "How am I throwing away my reputation?

I've complied with the investigation legally and thoroughly without breaking a single law. If even the law can't convict me, what are you so angry about?"
