With that, Liliana proactively downed her own glass of wine.
Madeline stared at her with a hollow, tight-lipped smile.
Great friends... Did Liliana think she was completely brain-dead?
Naturally, Madeline didn't immediately reach for her drink.
Seeing her hesitation, Liliana feigned anxiety, raising her voice to sound like a victim. "Madeline, I'm genuinely trying to look out for you. Are you really still holding a grudge about what happened today? Can't you be the bigger person?"
Madeline smiled, picked up the red wine, and took a drink.
A vicious glint flashed in Liliana's eyes.
"I've had the wine. I have things to do, so I'll be going now. Goodbye," Madeline said.
She turned and walked away.
Liliana's gaze darkened.
She followed at a leisurely pace, keeping her distance.
Even though Arthur hadn't publicly attacked her, his total dismissal felt like the ultimate insult. Madeline had earned the patriarch's respect, and she hadn't. Losing to Madeline was something she absolutely could not tolerate.
She also couldn't forget the furious look on Lucius's face when he realized she was in the bedroom instead of Madeline. He clearly wanted release, but he chose to handle it himself rather than touch her. It was the ultimate humiliation.
That bubbling resentment fueled her determination. She was going to destroy Madeline today.
She had acquired a powerful aphrodisiac and slipped it into the red wine.
Once Madeline drank it and lost her ability to walk, Liliana planned to pretend to help a 'drunk' friend, shove her into a waiting car, have her sexually assaulted, and record every single second of it in high definition.
If Madeline ever dared to step out of line, Liliana would send the footage straight to Lucius to show him what a shameless slut his wife truly was.
She even planned to leak it to Silas and Julian, just to show them how incredibly cheap their precious angel was.
Liliana almost laughed out loud.
She practically tasted the sweet victory of having Madeline entirely at her mercy.
But instead of collapsing, Madeline gracefully climbed the stairs, turned the corner, and kept walking perfectly fine.
Hiding a few feet away, Liliana watched in shock as Madeline moved normally—too normally.
She was utterly confused.
Just as she reached for her phone to curse out the guy who sold her the drug, a sudden numbness struck her.
