"Why have you come to me? Isn’t there some whore in the palace to take up all your time?" Vivienne asked, staring in the mirror at her husband’s reflection. "If you have come to tell me that you picked who will join me at your side then I advise you to leave."
"I have not decided on those women. I thought it would please you to see me here at your side. You have been upset these days-"
"And why would that be?" Vivienne raised her voice as she turned around to face Darius. "My husband gives his attention and body to every woman who catches his eyes."
"We are not done with this talk yet? For someone who doesn’t love me, you care a lot about who I give my time to-"
"You imbecile! I care about the disrespect. These women ignore my orders because they have your favour. It is insulting to me and my family name," Vivienne argued.
Like Darius, her family played an important role in the history of vampires. She was not to be treated as she was.
"We both know that your family doesn’t care about how many women I have. They only care about you being the one to birth the next king. Are they aware you aren’t holding up your end of the deal?" Darius asked, revealing why he came.
While a daughter was lovely, it was a son he wanted. Darius needed someone who could carry on his family name.
Vivienne could not believe the audacity of the man before her. "It is pointless speaking to you since you do not hear what I say. Do you think it is easy to lay with you? You only come to me when you want something or to anger me. Which is it?"
Darius walked to Vivienne to gently pull her hair over her shoulder so it would fall on her back. "You make the mistake of thinking I don’t want you more than those women. I like it more when you are angry."
Vivienne wasn’t impressed. It was likely there wasn’t anyone other than her to take to bed. It annoyed her that by the end of the day, she would invite him to her bed so she could quickly become pregnant.
"Did you enjoy yourself today? I was told you returned with an unpleasant attitude," Darius said, rubbing her shoulders to calm her.
"Attitude? You should tell your little spies to be more accurate," Vivienne replied.
When Vivienne found who ran to Darius about her then she would have them beheaded.
"Don’t be upset. They were keeping me informed about my wife. If someone were to upset you then I would have to get rid of them for you. Did Selene show up?" Darius asked, stepping back after Vivienne pushed his hands away.
Vivienne stood up and walked away so he could not touch her. "How could I forget that all you care about is her? The next woman you want to take to your bed."
"I’m sorry to inform you that Xavier put on quite the display for his wife today. The women present started to say he is in love with Selene so I am sure he will keep her away from the palace," Vivienne shared.
Vivienne knew Darius so well that she could see his interest in Selene growing even more. It was what he had done to her years ago.
Vivienne did not enjoy the expression Darius wore now as he thought about Selene. She did not care for Darius that much but she would not like to think she lost both men in her life to Selene. She had yet to see what was so special about Selene to have these men act this way.
"Do not misunderstand my words. Now is not the best time for you to trouble Xavier. His elders are quite interested in his life. Haven’t you heard of Blackthorns from all over the kingdom coming here?" Vivienne asked.
They were all interested in Xavier’s marriage since none of them were informed about the wife before the wedding. Vivienne liked this since there would be more to voice their opinions about the marriage.
"They will continue to force him to end the marriage. We should stay out of it," Vivienne said though she knew Darus wouldn’t. This was the time for Darius to do to Selene what he had done to her.
"They might," Darius agreed.
While it might help to put Selene in his hands, he did not want her that way. He wanted to take her from Xavier himself.
"You must think of another way to get her into the palace," Darius ordered Vivienne. This was more of his playground for him to get Selene hidden away the second she was in his sight.
Vivienne frowned. "You never learn your lesson to not speak of other women you are interested in before me. You are the king. Everyone is to come at your command so I would prefer you find a way to bring her here. Isn’t that ex-husband always here?"
"He was claiming it was she who harmed his mother but there wasn’t much proof. Enough of that for now. We must focus on having a son to please our families. I will have you tonight until I feel like it is done," said Darius.
