"Don’t do whatever it is you planned. Be smart for once and go about your way. She doesn’t want to speak to you," said Lucas.
Why did everyone think they needed to have a conversation with Selene each time they saw her?
If they hated her so much, they should do what they could to avoid her.
Cassandra looked up at the nosey guard. "Your lady doesn’t own this shop so I am free to enter as I please. Should I send for the town guards to make you move from in front of me? Then she’ll have even more attention on her."
Lucas forgot about Gabriel and placed Cassandra as the one he wanted to kill. There was more to this woman than he first thought. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
Her gaze challenged him like she was confident she could find a fight between them.
Again Lucas wondered who Gabriel had picked up and brought to this town. Did Gabriel know the woman he married well?
Lucas became annoyed thinking of what would happen once Gabriel realised that he lost a woman like Selene for Cassandra. Was he the type of man who would try to come crawling back?
After last night, Lucas confirmed that Xavier and Selene were very in love with each other so now wouldn’t be the best time for Gabriel to come running back.
Cassandra didn’t like the smile the man before she wore. If she could, she would kill him right now. Would Bryce listen to her request and kill this man?
"Get out of my path or I will call for the town guards," Cassandra said.
Lucas made himself comfortable where he stood. "I’ve never been one to care about the guards being near but if you want to waste their time, feel free to do so."
Lucas already had a bad reputation with the town guards since he worked for Xavier so he was certain they would come running once they heard it was him but that didn’t scare him.
The town guards were more of a joke to him.
It was moments like this when Cassandra wished Gabriel was at her side since she could manipulate him to get angry and attack the man before her.
Unfortunately, Gabriel went back to believing she lied and kept his distance.
"There is something I must buy there and you are stopping me from getting it. I will be quick-"
"I don’t care if you planned to step in and step out. You’re not going to be in the same space as her right now. There’s plenty for you to do and then come back here once she’s done. That’s a smart choice unless you were planning to cause some conflict here. You are," Lucas said, seeing right through her.
Cassandra decided to not wait any longer and started to walk by Selene’s guards. If they touched her then she would scream to get the attention of the town guards or it would bring Selene outside.
Cassandra couldn’t see Selene and leave her be. She always found herself curious about how Selene was doing. Was she truly in love with Lord Blackthorn and living well?
’How did I miss that chance?’ Cassandra wondered.
Had it been Xavier she sank her claws into instead of Gabriel then she would be closer to purebloods to kill them.
"But, it is a lonely life. You are a pureblood therefore you are-"
"Josephine!" Selene raised her voice and placed her hands on Josephine’s shoulder. "I like that you would like to fix this for me but you do not need to. I am fine not meeting with those women and only have my husband. I love your son."
"I do," Selene said, the realisation of what she felt slowly coming over her. "I am satisfied with what I have and I want to make genuine friends. Friends who like me for me and don’t care what the town sees. I do not need you to fix this."
"Well," Josephine didn’t know what to say.
"It is not my troubles you must fix. I am sorry to say but it is your life you must focus on because I am not the unhappy one. I like what I have so there’s nothing to fix and you trying to fix what the queen has done might only bring more harm. Please don’t," Selene pleaded with Josephine.
Josephine was stumped on what to say. She sat down, trying to make sense of her current thoughts. "You are happy."
"I am," Selene nodded her head.
Josephine looked down at her lap. "I cannot fix my troubles so I thought I could at least fix your troubles. I did not want to but I think I must part from Nathaniel. Even if it isn’t our marriage ending now, I cannot be there now."
"Xavier and I will be there for you. There are plenty of rooms on the estate. At a time like this, we must stick together and I will not leave you," Selene promised.
Selene walked to take a seat beside Josephine. "We can still have our fun day but we should do what we will enjoy, not what you think will distract you."
Josephine took a deep breath. "That might be best."
