Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord novel Chapter 287

Chapter 287: Monsters (2)

"Who else should I expect to be in your dungeon? Not my son, I hope," said Orlork.

"I would rather kill my father or put him to sleep than allow him to stay in my dungeon. You must not speak of who you see here, or I will find a way to place you in the dungeon. I mean it," Xavier said after Orlork smiled.

"I do not enter dungeons and speak of what I see. I don’t want to get you in trouble. Oh," Orlork said, surprised by the presence of the princess. "I thought you might have someone from the court here, not the princess."

Morgana stood up, happy to see Orlork in the dungeon. While he was not one of her elders, Orlork should be able to free her. This was not the way to treat a royal.

"What did you do to end up here, child? It couldn’t be too bad since he didn’t kill you," Orlork said, approaching the cell Morgana stood in.

"I did not do anything worth this treatment. Others have done far worse, yet they get to roam free. All I did was shift into his wife. I am tired of this place. It smells, and the blood they offer is of low quality. Please free me," Morgana begged. "I will stop my brother from attacking."

"This is not my dungeon for me to free you. You must plead to Xavier to be free, and as for your brother, I don’t think he realises you are missing," Orlork shared.

"What? How could that be?" Morgana asked, not believing Orlork. "He must know already. Has he not sent out a search for me?"

"Not that I know of. The Blackthorns would have been informed of the king searching for his sister. I have not received word of your disappearance, which is why I am surprised to find you here," Orlork replied.

"That is not possible," Morgana said, still believing Orlork was lying. "My brother would search for me."

"Maybe if he noticed you were missing," said Orlork.

Morgana wanted to deny it, but knowing her brother, Darius might be so focused on Vivienne and bringing other women to the palace that he didn’t notice she wasn’t around. He would think she went back to locking herself in her room because Xavier was already married.

"I forgot to mention," Orlork said, turning to Xavier. ’’The town is on fire right now. The king has sent out his army to collect humans to be taken to what he calls farms. I wouldn’t leave home now."

Xavier would have liked to know this earlier. "Why didn’t you tell me this before we came down here?"

"Because I knew you would leave," Orlork answered.

Morgana laughed, thinking herself silly for believing Darius would come for her. He had the time to focus on humans, yet he couldn’t realise his sister was missing.

Morgana sat back down since she wouldn’t be leaving the dungeon now. Darius wasn’t going to come for her, and Xavier wouldn’t trust her to release her. Morgana couldn’t be upset with him since the moment she was freed, she would head straight for the woman who took her place.

"I will admit I have drunk blood without buying it before, but once it was ordered that we must buy blood, I have stuck by that. All my life, I have not troubled anyone unless they came after me or someone I care for. Still, you might call me a monster," Xavier said, not caring about the title.

Xavier asked, "Aren’t you a monster too? Haven’t you harmed mixed-bloods who live peacefully among humans? There are monsters on both sides. You can’t kill families who did nothing to you and claim that you are pure. That is why your church has failed."

’No," Bryce replied, not seeing it as Xavier did. "We are fighting for our future. You stepped into the church and did something to it."

"I wish I had that kind of power, but I do not. You cannot pass the blame to me since it is easy. I am not the reason the church is no longer a haven. I suspect that it is what you and the others have been doing," said Xavier.

Bryce didn’t believe this since the deaths were all for the greater good of the kingdom. Since Mixed-bloods took blood as well, they all needed to die along with the purebloods. It was the only way humans could live in peace.

"Here," Orlork said, lifting the paper with the demon language. " Have you seen this?"

Bryce was ready to say no since he had nothing to do with demons, but the language written before him was something he caught a glimpse of the time he found out all the holy water was gone.

Phillip was the one with these markings, but Bryce refused to think Phillip was working with a demon.

"You have seen them," Xavier said without needing Bryce to respond. Bryce’s face said enough. "Tonight, your kind will run to churches for protection, but they will not be safe. If anyone within the church has written these words, they are the cause of the church’s downfall. Speak now before it is too late."
